Newcomer / Intro Fun so far

I just got the game last night and tried it out. Started playing at 11 and finished at 2 am lol. So far I have had 4 ships get away from me before I came across a wanted cobra and took it out.
my mistake was stopping at another signal on the way to claim the money lol. Strong signal and I had no idea, shields gone before fsd cool down was over and ship destroyed before I could bug out.
interesting start but tonight I actually want to start making money so I can start exploring the galaxy.
is there a way to explore in the stock sidewinder until I get better at controlling the ship?

I'm new to the game also, but the one thing that I hated about the stock sidewinder was the anemic FSD range and the wimpy power distributor. Once I upgraded those two bits to C grade, I was a lot happier. I think that between those changes and adding a fuel scoop, that you could do decently well exploring.

TO be fair if you do upgrade the sidey it is a great tool for learning the ropes, it can pack a punch too if outfitted right. Mine was almost all A modules before i moved on. I like them.

As HipToss said fuel scoop, go lightest modules and nice fat FSD and power setup. scanners help too!

Luckily to you CMDR's upgrading the Sidy is really cheap (i know you dont have much but it is still cheap). Exploring is an easy and safe way to start making some credits. Class "D" rated modules weigh the least and will increase your jump range without having to buy a new FSD, but upgrading the FSD is obviously the best way to increase range. You can also strip off all unnecessary components, i.e. weapons. The basic discovery scanner sucks but it will get you some quick money. Make sure you slap on the detailed surface scanner as soon as possible too. Scanning the object significantly increases the profit. Scan it by locking on to the target and facing directly at it.

The scoop is a must for exploring!

Yes don't forget this. You will be a sad CMDR if you head out without one of these. Just remember "Oh Boy! A Fine Girl Kissed Me" (O,B,A,F,G,K,M are the scoop-able class stars)

When it comes to upgrading modules, skip the "B" grade for now. They are too heavy for the little benefit they give. Go with "C" grade or "A" grade if you want to get into better modules.

D grades are handy for shaving weight to eke out that last little bit of jump range.
