Just a random thought!
In MechWarrior, if you overheat too much, you automatically shut down, which you can override.
In ED, you basically bake to death. Lol
So I'm suggesting something similar, but the opposite.
In the functions menu, you can set your "overheat protection" option.
Default, despite the danger, is OFF.
Then you can set it too, 100%, 110%, 125%, 150%, or 200%.
If your heat passes any of these thresholds, you ship shuts down entirely.
With this option also comes a "Shutdown Override" binding. If your ship is shut down from overheating, this button will bring it back online immediately.
If your ship is not overheating, this button will actually shut your ship down until you press it again.
Your life support will kick in if you shut down for any reason.
Then, not only do you have some fun controls for heat management, you can also shut your ship down and go cold for a potential ambush, or to hide.
Thoughts?
