Funeral Procession

Anyone encountered the funeral procession in deep space? I've ran into it a few times but never have a cargo scanner available. The reason I ask is I was wondering what purpose this serves. Is it linked to a mission somewhere? The large freighter marked "funeral ship", is it actually carrying a body in its hold? I sat debating whether or not to blast the doors open and find out, but couldn't muster audacity to ruin a funeral rite.

I've encountered one a few Mm from the star in a system, seems they were going to dive on in and REALLY cremate the deceased.

I've seen it too, a wedding procession can also be found from time to time.
Never checked them out though, they seem to have a lot of friends around...

I encountered a wedding party a couple of days ago. There was a type 9 called Wedding Barge and 6 or 7 other ships from a escort fighter to a few other large transports. I just watched them fly by in a group for a bit. I did not shoot at them either.

I THOUGHT I had my kill warrent scanner out and I thought I'd scan the big Lakon...

I actually had weapons out... and I launched 2 missiles at a hearse...

I got out of there pretty quick... but I still feel bad.

I am a bad bad man :(

My guess is when they implement level 2 NPCs (persistent people with memories, goals and pseudo-lives) these will get replaced or tweaked as part of that system. I'm guessing they are a placeholder right now.

Since they are quite a bunch of ships (often good pilots as well), maybe we should join up a couple of us and try take em down. :) Maybe they start ejecting dead bodies out of the cargo. :D

Just to make it a bit more morbid in here: Maybe they eject canisters of live slaves; the 'funeral' is a coverup for disposing of 'overstock merchandise'.

Just shoot them and claim you misunderstood and thought they were looking for a reason to have a funeral instead of already being on the way to one.

There used to be missions back in beta to hunt and destroy x number of wedding guests or x number of funeral attendees. These missions seem to have dissappeared now but the USS spawn still remains.

Maybe once the Dev team have got all the important bits fixed up, might ask what happed to these missions.

Don't feel too bad Marak, I destroyed an entire funeral procession in Jera yesterday. Needed to show the citizens of Jera that the Social Democrats can't protect their own.
