Funny how the mind works

I was doing a simple trade run between two systems when a friend popped by my home. He sat down watching me play and we began a conversation about pretty much anything but Elite while I continued flying. After a good while he suddenly said: "Wow that's some nice flying there!". Me, being of the humble sort ofcourse agreed and then it struck me: I couldn't recall anything I've done the past 30 minutes, including dock. clearance, pad nr search etc...

It's like when you concentrate on NOT mucking it up, you tend to fail much more, at least in my case...and when zoning out, the spinal autopilot kicks in. :D

Very true - unless you get caught up in nerdy stuff like production and harmonies (i'm a musician). That alone have cost me a few ships in the past. ;p

Reminds me...
God, I miss my Playstation 1 and Wipeout on it :)

edit: hm, that was a bit cryptic, right?
but, like the OP said: actually being involved in a conversation only to have the announcer suddenly interrupting you with "Perfect Lap"
or "New Record", leaving you with no recollection of your actual flying the past minutes? Priceless!

This is why Infected Mushroom is typically my jam. Very little to have to focus on. little to no lyrics as a distraction.

I suggest the Vicious Delicious, Army of Mushrooms, and Friends on Mushrooms albums.

I warn you though. Dock up when you start piloting your ship to the beat If you get in a hairy fight. Getting in the zone can be a bad thing If you go too far in the zone.

I do that driving to work in the morning.. sometimes im just so zoned out i dont really think about the drive.. suddenly its like.. "wow im here.. i dont remember any of that trip"..

kinda scary actually :)

I listen to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, so add a bit of atmosphere.

It works brilliantly, I just wish I was flying something as sexy as the Milano.

Wipeout XL was my staple on my PS1! Quirex, favorite ship. Perfect laps, running the same track 20 times to beat lap records... Oh fun times. :)

I often think how far I've come in piloting my ship, but it all goes to pot if someone is watching - my graceful glide onto a pad turns into crashing into every obstacle!

I can just imagine finishing off some big pirate and the main stanza kicking in :)

And this is why "too much zone" can be a bad thing. Trancing out while in a fight puts pretty much everything in autopilot. Not a good thing when you have to manage power and watch your shields.

It's not bad If you're just hunting in an RES rather than conflict zones.
