Funny incident in-game

This past weekend (9/6, 9/7) I put in some decent amount of hours on ED. At one point, a rather humorous incident occurred. Figured I'd share it on here; who knows, the other player involved may remember it as well!

Being a newbie, I still only had a Sidewinder at this point and was trying to build up my bank by taking on missions and running the small amount of cargo I was able to, from one system to the next.

At one point, I was running a couple of missions at once. One of them required me to rendezvous with a contact and another was a courier. I picked up the courier one simply because I was going to go through that system on my route anyway. When I arrive at the courier mission system and go into Supercruise, I line up the station ahead of me and realize that I'm flying over a Resource Extraction Site. For some odd reason, without thinking, I decided to exit and go check it out. Essentially, in the back of my mind I had forgotten that I had come to this system for the courier mission and not the rendezvous.

Anyhow, I arrive at the point and there's no one there. At this point I realize my own stupidity and check out my active missions to be sure (Yep! The rendezvous mission was still a jump away, this system was just the delivery at station). So I am about to head to the station now when I get a warning and then someone starts firing on me, I scrutinize the sensors and it's a human player! Unfortunately with the generic "Backer #" name. Anyhow, he is in a Sidewinder as well and kind of caught me off-guard as I was looking at my navigation UI, so I don't have a second to even hail him/her on Comms. I deploy hard points and go to town; I am easily able to out-maneuver him and after a dogfight of a minute or two, he's dead.

So now I am getting my bearings and again about to head to the station (while wondering why a human player, who clearly wasn't out for blood or piracy based on his/her flying, would attack me) when I start getting attacked... AGAIN. This time it's an NPC and while I forget the full name of the computer character, I do notice that it is Something (Vince? Alexander? Christopher?) Cross. Which makes me do a double-take because mine is Commander Kross. The NPC has a Sidewinder too and is pretty easy to defeat. Thankfully, I'm not attacked again by anyone else once he's dead.

As I finally chug along to the station in that system, I start chuckling to myself. Because, what I realize is that I may have mistakenly dropped into the user Backer-#'s mission point right around when he got there looking to kill an NPC with the last name "Cross". He then found me there (Kross), figured, "close enough", and started firing. What I still didn't understand was why the NPC opened up on me when I hadn't fired on him first.

The Backer-# dude, if you're here on the forums, sorry about that! And do feel free to share your side of the story, haha.

LOL! Nice one

I saw on KickStarter that at certain tier, people's names would be considered for a pool of NPC names. Honestly, don't think I would want some random stupid AI to be flying under my name.
