Fur de lance I lov my ship is there something better?

My Fav ship is my engineered Fur de lancer. Its fast maneuverable and armed and powered to the teeth is formidable in a scrap. I have a n explorer (krait Mk 2) fully engineered which I use for that purpose and the Anaconda which has been used for combat and some courier type work as it has room for storage best part being the fighters in a scrape.

Anaconda handles like a dog it is a beast but is good in a fight. The Fur De lancer I love engineered up its great in a fight but little room for much else delight to fly.

So MY QUESTION: what's better then a Fur de lancer .. same maneuverability fire power speed and can hold some fighters on board in the medium ship size ? I can use for picking up small loads and engineered up is the weapon ship of choice?

Cheers Cmdr CM

FDL-but-better is a tough ask. Closest I think you'll get is the Krait MK2 since that can take a fighter like you want and it's more suited as an all-rounder. But it won't be quite as good at combat as a FDL.

The chieftain's great but if OP wants fighters then it's the crusader to opt for. It's much more sluggish than the chieftain though and might disappoint vs the FDL.
Apart from the krait mk ii the python is the alternative ( but no fighter bay). Or the federal gunship but this suffers the same lack of internal space as the crusader but with even worse jump range.

Krait mk ii is the optimum multirole medium with fighters I think.

The Mamba is a very close match for the FdL but no fighter or cargo capability.
Crusader won’t really carry stuff and fight well.
Corvette can do it all but is not a medium.

The Krait mk2 has a fighter and handles pretty well and can do cargo etc. but might not be quite the killing machine that the FdL is. But probably is the ship you want you just need to put the exploration gear into a Krait Phantom.

For something designed for the pure purpose of blowing stuff up- no. Anything else will come with some kind of compromise. If it's a combat ship with a bit more utility you want, I'd suggest the Krait Phantom. 4 hardpoints and a class 7 distributor give you some ridiculous engineering possibilities (4 short range thermal conduit plasma accelerators come to mind here). It's also faster and steers better than a mk2.

Although the mk2 would definitely be the thing to get if it's a fighter bay in a medium that's the thing you're after.

That's the beauty of the game - there's no best ship, there are a lot of good ones. To get the best from them you really need to learn how to fly each one in depth, and there's a lot of gameplay right there. Sure you can engineer the balls of your ship and your gimballed weapons but once you've done that you can try with plasma accelerators, or cannons and fixed lasers and so on.

Re the chieftain, it's fun but fit some module reinforcement. All those Alliance ships have terrible module protection - in fact, if they're in CZs I focus on them, target the thrusters and they are dead in the water in no time. A great way to clean up.

The Sidewinder is superior. The FDL is by far my least favorite ship. Everyone and their bother uses it in pvp and with the exact same 3 PAs, 2 rail load out. Also, it looks stupid—almost like a Thomas the Tank ship.

Now that this is out. How long before the angry mob with pitchforks and torches descends on my planetary pirate base?

I like the FDL except for that longnose getting in the way and seeing the target marker through the nose if I dip up a little. It might be different now, I have not owned an FDL in 5 years or so.

IMO the Chieftain and the Challenger have much better fling characteristics and weapons options than the FDL, but there's no getting around the fact that the FDL has by far the best shield capacity.
Really it's a no-brainer to use the FDL for purely combat op's.
Unless you go for the Corvette.

Well actually I prefer the weapons loadout and convergence for fixed weps on the Anaconda but it's just not quite fast enough.

Anaconda handles like a dog it is a beast but is good in a fight.
I routinely kill Anacondas in my rails Chieftain when they still have well over half their hulls left. The power plant of the Anaconda is its Achilles heel. It is, in the end, worthless in combat against any human opponent.

The Chieftain is just as maneuverable as the FDL for the most part. It also has essentially the same fire power if it's built properly. The FDL has that 4 slot, but that's the only real advantage it has. The Chieftain's slots are better located, making it able to hit from some really extreme angles, something the FDL can't do that well.

The biggest problem with the Chieftain is how twitchy it is. It can be problematic sometimes to keep fixed guns on target, a problem the FDL doesn't really have.

Head to head, in the hands of equal pilots, it's a tie more times than not. They're just so evenly matched.
