Future habitat bird wants

After checking to see that we (surprisingly?) don’t have something similar yet (as far as I’m aware at least), I decided to make a thread for people to suggest realistic habitat birds for the game.

I feel like our feathery friends (especially waterfowl) are in a similar position to New World monkeys; where most people want more of them in general, but few actually suggest specific species for Frontier to include. I see all too many pack ideas be nothing but habitat mammals (especially ungulates and carnivorans) and I doubt it’s helping the games ridiculously unbalanced roster (to emphasize just how far behind birds are, we’ve only gotten one non ratite/penguin bird in DLC, meanwhile we’ve gotten seven canids!)

At the current rate of 1-2 birds per year, I highly doubt they’ll have a satisfying roster by the end of the game’s lifespan, especially if it continues to be so un-diverse (not that the penguins or ratites were bad additions - far from it - it just goes to show how behind other birds are).

Some popular suggestions I’ve seen thrown around that Frontier will hopefully take notice of:
  • Mandarin Duck
  • Shoebill
  • Secretary Bird
  • Himalayan Monal
  • Golden Pheasant
  • Nēnē
  • Capercaillie
  • Victoria Crowned Pigeon

Some species I’d love to see:
  • Cape Barren Goose (ridiculously common in both Australian and NZ zoos, whilst still being found overseas)
  • Black Swan
  • Helmeted Guinea Fowl
  • Grey Crowned Crane (admittedly subjective, but from my experience these guys are really common and kind of feel like a classic zoo animal, I’m surprised they aren’t suggested more)
  • Plumed Whistling Duck (used to work with these guys and they are the cutest little hellspawns <3)
  • Roseate Spoonbill - just look at this goober! I will never understand people who say birds can't be as cute as mammals:

NORTH AMERICA
  • Ocellated turkey - probably my most wanted bird in the game, which could be made from the peafowl.

Also for North America, I think the greater roadrunner is quite an interesting potential option - odd as it may seem, I think it could be remade using the same rig as the kiwi. When the kiwi model runs, a comparison with the roadrunner shows that the legs move in a very similar way. Change the position of the head, make the body less dumpy and add a tail, and voila - a roadrunner is born.

I would really love to get combo of Roseate Spoonbill + Scarlet Ibis. Really common in zoos near me, I just need some colourful South American birds.

Grey-Crowned Crane - seems like they are commonly mixed with various African ungulates, so it would be an interesting option.

Waterfowl! - Pelican, Duck, Swan, Goose…please, we just need some of these.

Secretary Bird - well this one is really unqie and popular.

Helmeted Guineafowl - so common, would really love to see them.

Some kind of pheasant.. Golden pheasant, Himalayan Monal… common Frontier, reuse the Peafowl rig. :)

To add on to my original post, here are some zoo-relevant bird species organized by pack ideas they could appear in (not necessarily packs I want nor think could happen, just ones that seem popular on the forums). Just to show people that there's more unique choices than the usual half and half ungulate/carnivoran + a random small mammal rosters :/

In bold are birds that appear multiple times, * are ones I'd really like personally.
