Future remaining terrestrial megafauna wants/needs

Looking at the roster, I'm curious what remaining animals that would be classified as megafauna would be desired to get in the game? Using one of the more popular threshold of roughly 44kg/100 lbs as the line of what would define a megafauna species.

Since the game started with a lot of large animals, and the DLCs have also put in quite a number of them as well, we've seen a shift towards the desire for medium or smaller animals to make it into the game. So in letting them take the forefront, what remainning terrestrial megafauna would you want or even need? I'm not sure if any one of them is absolutely essential at this point, but feel free to say why you feel otherwise.

Point to make - this is for terrestrial megafauna, as fully marine animals currently aren't supported by the game's coding as far as we know. Please leave the manatee for other discussions.

I really only have one that I would consider being something that I would "need" and that would be the Spectacled Bear.

Other ones I'd have a priority towards seeing are:
Wild Boar
American Black Bear
Masai Giraffe
Walrus
Markhor
Bighorn Sheep
Saiga Antelope
Blackbuck
Muskox
Takin
Nile Crocodile

as well as a second Lion and a second Zebra.

And some of those are included because the community is asking for them.

Me, personally? Pretty much just the takin, American black bear, spectacled bear, and sulcata tortoise. Maybe also a couple larger domestics (e.g. an exotic cattle breed). Otherwise, pretty much everything on my top 50 (which I'm waiting until after the December 2023 pack is announced) is either a bird or a smaller mammal.

Remaining essential megafauna (to me):
  • Carnivorans:
    • Finish up the bear species (American Black Bear, Spectacled Bear, Sloth bear, and maybe EBB?) only the first two are essential to me personally
    • Another pinniped or two. Walrus isn't essential to me, but it is a top 5 animal. The ribbon seal is a personal favorite.
  • Ungulates:
    • The blackbuck, bighorn sheep, and markhor are the only three that are essential to me personally.
    • The nilgai would be great to go with the blackbuck. The Arabian oryx would be nice to have as well for an Asian antelope.
    • For additional caprines, I would like to see the musk ox, takin, tahr, and maybe the barbary sheep?
    • For large deer, I would love to see a marsh deer, Roosevelt's elk, and white tailed deer. At least one for NA is kind of essential to me personally, but I still want the sheep more.
    • For African ungulates, there are still a few antelope I'd like. I would love a Masai giraffe, which I view as essential some days.
    • For Europe, at least one of the following: chamois, wisent, and wild boar is essential for European zoo rep, but not to me personally. They're all pretty good though, and I wouldn't mind them.
  • Other:
    • A crocodile for Africa and the spurred tortoise would be excellent additions, bordering on essential.
Only the five that I bolded are essential megafauna to me. There are another underlined five that are kind of borderline for me. Due to popularity and demand, I would say that the walrus, takin, and at least one European ungulate (probably wild boar) are essential as well. There are still a few I want, and I see options for future packs if Frontier wants to make them.

When I think of megafauna, I think of those species that are most iconic to each continent. In order from least to most represented, here are each of the continents and which of their most iconic megafauna are missing from in game.

• Spectacled Bear
• Brazilian Tapir
• Vicuña

• Nile Crocodile
• African Leopard (sub Sahara) and Persian Leopard (Middle East)
• Barbary Sheep

That’s a LOT of missing megafauna. Antarctica I won’t comment on because of its lack of biodiversity when it comes to viable options for a zoo game. Europe and Asia, because of their massive size, are missing the most of their megafauna at the moment. North America too, which has a lot of its most charismatic megafauna present, but is still missing some key options. South America, whose biodiversity is mainly made up of smaller animals, comes up well represented in terms of megafauna. Africa, unsurprisingly, has most of its megafauna present in game.

Great lists so far! I'll be honest that's already a lot more diversity than I expected. Big ones I definitely overlooked was the Elk/Wapiti and Eurasian Brown Bear.

Wild boar and Wisent for Europe. Boar is a forest staple, and the wisent is the largest land animal in Europa and has an important conservation story.

Great list! Nitpicking here but the Wolverine would not actually be considered a Megafauna by most definitions. They're a lot smaller than people think!

So I guess Mainland Reticulated Pythons do count as Megafauna then. Would love to see those in the Game.
Would need a bigger Exhibit though. It's the largest Snake in the World afterall (Green Anaconda is only the heavyest)

  • Nilgai
  • Rothschild’s giraffe
  • Visayan warty pig
  • Wild bactrian camel
  • Any other bear with Sloth bear as the clear leader
