Hopefully FD continue the concept of the HUD displays as outlined in early designs that it will follow the player and adapt, as in the SRV and walking about (some implanted or wearable Augmented Reality-AR device).
In past versions of Elite the landing approach had bounding boxes with the optimal approach vector and I'd like to see that as a toggle-option. Particularly for planet approaches and Outposts with multiple landing pads where I often need to fly around a bit to know where I'm supposed to go.
It would be great if a future major rework of the HUD allowed not just color changes by Player but also the ability to toggle and "pin" certain displays ourselves. Core items might be immovable per FD dictate, like the sensor disc, but perhaps players could choose what goes on the left and right holo circles as currently they are cool but are extremely under-utilized and almost pointless (with the exception of the recently added position of the docking slot on Coriolis stations on the left holo-projector).
The main suggestion in this ramble is that in future driving and walking about modes, the VR/IR movement of today be kept in mind and we get even more potential information on the HUD if we want it. This, rather than have to constantly pull up side console views to get information.
In the future when buying a car, in the showroom the dealer may give AR glasses and we will see information about a vehicle pop-up in front of it, potentially with drillable detail. So when my avatar walks around a ship in a future ED shipyard, there should be a toggle to have similar information shown as on the ship HUD, in IR fashion.
This would work with a future ship repair mechanic and EVA / Elite feet mode, where the gaping hole in the ship's hull has an overlay with key info on damaged systems and how to fix (where are those super detailed damage models shown in early dev videos anyway?). This type thing is being prototyped on major manufacturer assembly lines and for repairs in the field as well, and will be a real boon to new employees to rapidly ramp up assembly and repair skills.
I don't say it is easy, but it would be cool and hopefully achievable in the game.
