Future Squadron Ship: Earned. Not Bought

I assume this has been posted and discussed at length. But I missed those posts/discussions. If there are posts, feel free to link me so I can engage in the discussion.

Since we have heard nothing about the future Squadrons update, I wanted to post my desire for the ultimate prize in the Squadron update coming this year. The Squadron Ship.

I want to have to earn it. Particularly through a grind that my Squad mates and I can do together. Instead of setting a monetary value on the Squadron ship, (which could be considered a grind as well), why not make a huge list of materials/items/objectives that a squadron has to complete before they earn a Squadron Ship?

Have some in-game announcement that some major corporation is accepting build contracts where Squadrons have to deliver 100KTons of Materials X, Y, and Z. Deliver X numbers of certain Data types. Etc Etc. Here is where you can add a contract amount in credits. A Labor cost only. Since we did the work to get all the materials and data to build the ship. Once the contract has been fulfilled, the Squadron ship is built.

Make it a fun process that Squadrons can work together towards. A Grind that has a pretty epic reward. A Squadron Ship.

I will be happy with whatever FD does and I look forward to seeing what they come up with. In the end I just love the idea of Squadrons. This is just my wish for the process of earning the base/ship.

Instead of money or materials, or reputation, or whatever.

Why not be able to choose how you "earn" one...

You can buy it for an extortionate amount of credits. (Multi-Billions)
Or you can construct it from raw mined ores and metals, construct it from commodities.
Or you can earn it from some kind of rank or reputation.

Choices are better. :)

If you are suggesting that perhaps the contract to have a ship built for you could be open, I can see your point. Perhaps the Squadron gets to choose what they want as the terms. I agree to do X so you build me a Squadron Ship. If that means turn in 100K combat vouchers in whatever system the builder chooses, I can see that.

Have several contract types. Exploration, Combat, Trading, Credit, etc. The Squadron can choose what they want to do.

The real question is whether or not loner groups are able to get one.

I understand that it's supposed to be an undertaking meant for groups but there are smaller groups out there as well as groups of one. Will it be restricted to larget groups or will they just get them first?

I feel like the latter would be the case. It would be something anyone could get, but would take longer. I would also think perhaps FD would encourage people to join a group.
 
I personally think the best way to implement the squadron carriers is not as a permanent fixture, but instead as an ad-hoc rental on an daily (or even hourly, or every 6 hours, whatever works) basis so that squadrons can get together for an evening's adventure without having to worry about the logistics behind the "ownership" of such a vessel. Players simply group up, form a squadron, chip in credits for the night's rental, then the whole squadron docks and heads off for their little adventure before docking back with the carrier for the return trip once the night's objectives are complete.
 
I dont really care much if it can be bought, but I'd whinge and stomp to make sure they are hard to maintain and not just a 'one time' reward. Is it repairing ships? make sure its stock gets replenished. Is is refuelling ships? then make sure it has fuel in stock. Is is rearming? make sure someone keeps bringing weapons to the squadron ship; and finally all those water/food/medicines and other supplies needed to keep it functional.

Make it usable, but also having an upkeep according to the usage.
