(G) = Gimble. (T) = ?

Why not cover your ship with these then instead of gimbal variants? Are they simply not equivalent in aim/damage to the gimballed versions??

Turrets deal much less damage than any other weapons that can be installed on the same hardpoints.

gimballed and turrets are weaker, you can install class3 T or G into C4 slot, their price is much higher than C4 regular weapon and damage noticeable smaller, but that needs some testing in finished game

also turrets are automated and from what i have heard they have poor aim, you can adjust their targets under right user interface -> functions (turret weapon mode), also if you set those to fire at will you can receive fines for firing in no fire zones and other funny stuff.

anyway turrets are for big ships mainly :)

also turrets seem to cause the most heat out of any weapon. tho i tryed a pile in an anaconda and this could be them all fireing (even those the wrong side of the ship - known bug) , didnt drop a SW's shield by a whole bar before overheating

they also are the least accurate (non fixed) weapon with all the gimbaled inacuracys but slower turning system (to ballance their turretyness?).

so most expencive , least damage , most heat and worst accuracy.
i say forget them till the devs get round to them hopefuly straight after gimbles.

Terrible accuracy, low damage, heat, prone to causing unwanted aggravation...

...but it can be handy having a hitscan laser weapon continually reminding someone that they're being shot. :)

You can fit turrets to the class 4 mounts on the Viper, by design or accident, but they're not ideal. They will only auto-target when the enemy is below the boresight of the ship, so basically when you can't see them. And even then they sweep all over the show like searchlights rather than locking on, and generate mad amounts of heat, so they're not very practical. I've yet to try them on a larger ship where I'd imagine they're a little more useful.

I'm still trying to track down Class 2 burst lasers (G). I can find class 1 version, or class 2 non-gimballed. Do they exist?

I've also not seen a class 4 mini-cannon (G) either.

The turrets suit me, even if they are low accuracy and shoot at anything in range.
They need tuning.

I'm driving a Lakon 6, not the best combat ship, and it has 2 pulse turrets.
If they get a target, getting it better than I would at that moment,
I am so busy trying to fly the ship and get out of anyone's direct line of fire. Targeting is less important than surviving.

Its helpful for us old, less twitchy, folks.

Not much damage, but at least its getting in more hits than I would without them.

They don't exist.

Even numbered classes are always fixed, odd are gimballed or turreted.

Edit: So the next upgrade from a class 1 (G) is a class 3 (G) etc

there are no such things as class 2 gimballed weapons :)

gimballed weapons are all 1 class lower than regular just because you can fit in class 4 hardpoint class 3 gimballed gun, regular are 2-4-6-8 etc, gimballed are 1-3-5-7 etc :)

* Face palms * - Well, I'm learning! - That's pretty tricky/clever designing there!

So bear with me then for hopefully one last question...

Ok, so if you take a CLASS 2 weapon and compare it to its CLASS 1 gimballed version, are they the same power? ie: If you shoot a target with them would they do the same damage? Or is the CLASS 2 (non-gimballed) weapon, as it's class suggests, more powerful?

ps: I noticed your fab manual doesn't seem to highlight this point - "regular are 2-4-6-8 etc, gimballed are 1-3-5-7." Now you've explained it, I can see it backed up in your manual. But it doesn't say it as plainly as you just pointed it out to me :)

As I understand it the fixed classes are always more powerful than the gimbled versions of the same type.

It seems to have been designed so you can always arm your ship with a more power non-gimballed weapon than a gimballed one.

:) that's the trade off for easier handling weapons - they are weaker, currently we cannot say how much weaker as all will change but they are much weaker, so if you are bad shot get gimballed, but if you are medium to good get fixed, anyway you need to practice or you will never be good :)

but that depends what you re looking for, trade, fight, both.

i will include odd/even classes in my guide ;) it's hard to write all at once, usually i go back through couple times and still miss small/big things ;)
