Gah!

Been playing the beta while also trying to quickly bring my CMDR back from 25000ly out.

Was about 12k from home last night. Logged in this morning to find the insurance screen.

What?!?!

Quickly thinking back, did I really leave the PC between jumps (throttled back, but still) to deal with the kids. Forgot about it, and later (much much later) shut down the PC without looking?

My fault of course, but two months and 35,000 ly of exploration data done for.

Ce la vie.

Bright side - insta relocation back to civilisation.

Ouch. I cannot imagine... I did once blow up a fully Rare loaded Lakon Type-6 when I "Paused" and went for a bio-break outside a station, so I can imagine a little. I still have no idea how I ended up in the escape pod...

Lesson to All Whom Read This Thread: Never, ever, leave the game on the "Pause" screen. Always, always, go back to the Main Menu. Taking the time for astrologics to recalculate a long-star plot is so much better than being turning to stardust...

Cheers!

At least you learned it in beta and not in real.

That said, if you need to afk, just throttle down and jump into normal space and you are safe like 99.99999% of the time.

Read the OP again - he fried his ship on the main install.

The Elite Dangerous minions are working overtime today.......another CMDR lost 4 months of explo data today after a silent running incident

Yeah, silent running is dangerous. I have my silent running key well away from everything else but I pressed it instead of deploying my scoop and when I moved closer to the canister I thought that I hadn't tried to deploy my scoop so deployed scoop, as I moved closer, the flashing warning lights came on as it usually does when a collision is imminent as is the case with scooping but this Tim it was because my ship was overheating and only realised when I saw the sparks so turned silent running off and in doing so I collided with the canister and with the shields being offline, the collision must have added to the damage. Luckily I only suffered a little damage but it could have been worse as I wanted to get up for a pause and would have perished if I had done that before scooping.

Ah...
"Been playing the beta while also trying to quickly bring my CMDR back from 25000ly out." - Lead me to believe otherwise, sucks then, but yeah the silent running thing sucked though kinda odd they didn't know it was in functions as well, people don't mess around in menu's when learning a game anymore?

But yeah this sucked, forgetting to fall into normal space ouch :(
