Galactic Adventures of CMDR Zylark

Greetings fellow commanders!

In this thread I shall document some of my (mis)adventures throughout the known Galaxy. Now mind you, I'm not a beginner, so this will start with me being somewhat well off, with a 6.5 million Cobra stashed away at my home system of Tavgi, and a 15 million Asp as my main ship.

Preamble:

I've done my dues, I've traded, smuggled, bounty hunted and fought my way from a teeny loaned Sidewinder and a measly 1000 credits, to having over 21 million in ships and modules and an additional 2.8 million in the bank. Friendly with the Federation, and have a host of allied systems spread around my main areas of activity. All this in open, though not been particularly picked on by other players. The two little brushes with the insurance-agency I have had, were entirely my own fault. Well, beers fault actually, but details.

Entry # 1 - 13th Jan 3301 "The Rare Goods Grand Tour!" part 1

Sitting in the hangars of home, Gordon Enterprise in the Tavgi system. Browsing the Bulletin Board as usual. 'Salvaging The Future' it says. Head off to Imp space and steal some prototype tech and then smuggle it home. I think not. For one thing, 25 thousand is not enough to risk a fine and the reputation going south if caught, and for another, my big Asp is not really all that well suited for smuggling. Sure, in a Viper or Cobra racing through the slot before a scan completes is easy. In an Asp, with only D class thrusters, not so much.

So... Something different. Something more, uhm, profitable then. Through back-channels I've gotten hold of a trade-route that whilst long and treacherous, should bring in enough credits for some much wanted upgrades. Chief amongst them an A5 shield. The current D3 is fine for protecting the paint going in and out of stations, but that is also about it.

First destination, 39 Tauri - Porta station. 84LY from home, no less than 21 jumps if doing it the economical way. Yeah right, that's not why I nearly emptied my slush-fund for an A5 FSD just recently. The days of taking detours are over. 4 jumps taking the fastest possible route is better. With one stop for some trading. The farmers and workers of Ursitoare will probably like some Consumer Goods and Performance Enhancer, I am sure. And the precious metals they sell will certainly fetch a good price at my destination.

--- Tavgi > Ursitoare ---

Having just entered Ursitoare, my fuel was under the half-full point, so some serious scooping was in order to top it off. Now, whilst going to 'Lucy Young's Orbital Happy Home' sounded fun and all, that is not where the precious metals are sold. The much more boring sounding 'Milestones' station is where I'll get the most bang for my buck methinks.

Docking permission granted, gear out, through slot and land at pad 23. Yes, done, no problem and done. Oh, not good. Only 289 p/t (profit per ton) on the Consumer Goods. Better than a loss I guess. From bad to worse, only 72 p/t on the Performance Enhancers. Crap. Goddamned commies, they never have money to pay top price. I sure hope the citizens of 39 Tauri like shiny metals though. No hedging, I bought 104 tons of gold.

--- Ursitoare > 39 Tauri ---

Arrived at Porta station without any further ado. There's even some actual humans around, not just those dreary droids. Type 6 and Cobra commanders. I'm not one to shy away from some opportune 'lightening a transporters load' activity. But seeing as I need the trade of this system, and not to mention having a full cargo-hold, this is not the place or time. Selling my cargo at 922 p/t gave a healthy addition to my spending money.

Picked up 12 tons of Tauri Chimes. Nothing else to pick up really, unless you like shi... uhm, biowaste. Hmm, actually, my next stop, Fujin, is agricultural, they do like biowaste, don't they? No big profits in it, but empty cargo space means zero profit. Which is worse.

--- 39 Tauri > Fujin ---

Biowaste sold for 31 p/t. Every credit counts, but I do hope future side-cargo will contribute somewhat more to my spending-fund. 5 Tons of Fujin Tea bought. Next stop is TZ Arietis on my way to Altair. TZ Arietis is High-Tech, so some good beef, coffee and tea will surely be appreciated there. Sadly not much of it available, odd for an agriculture system. They got plenty of grain and fish though. The latter will stink up my cargo-room. Do I get paid extra for that? Bought up all the alcohol I could as well, the little of it that was for sale. And some leather. I'm just hoping the fish-stink won't bring the price down on it.

Speaking of coffee by the way, I'll make some for myself before departure. With cow-juice.

--- Fujin > TZ Arietis ---

Three jumps to get here. More refueling. At least fuel is free. I've seen docu-holos' of people in the old days back on Earth paying through their nose to fuel their cars with hydro-carbons, and wrecking the planet in the process. Silly suckers. Hmmm, a couple of traders in orbit here, seeking luxuries. Shame I do not have any. Those independent traders usually pay top-credits.

Overshot Snyder Enterprise station like some snot-nosed cadet straight out of the pilot academy. Not worthy of a Lieutenant Commander of the Federal Navy. To make it even worse some furry monkey crashed into me just as I entered the station. Learn to fly - and yield to the bigger ship goddammit! Good thing I got shields. Fixing hull damage on this thing is not cheap.

I got rid of most my by and large cheap side-cargo. Average profit about 170 p/t or so. Mostly due to the fish - the bulk of my cargo - selling for only 98 p/t. Kept the leather, as it would sell at a loss, and we can't have any of that.

Altair is industrial with a side-order of refining. So some very cheap Auto-Fabricators will probably do well. Non-Lethal Weapons is also remarkably cheap here, so I'm hedging my haul with those.

--- TZ Arietis > Altair ---

The approach to Solo Orbiter station was textbook perfect. Upon arrival though, a big fat Type 7 was parked at the entrance - getting shot at. Had to wait out the station defenses pulverizing it before I could slip through. The leather sold at a meager 170 p/t. Must have been the fish stink. The Non-Lethal Weapons did a disappointing 183 p/t and the Auto-Fabricators a nearly decent 337 p/t.

Picked up 15 tons of Altairian Skin, and the next stop being an extraction economy, some Mineral Extractors at a good price and a batch of Basic Medicines, everyone wants that.

--- Altair > Chi Eridani ---

Three jumps to get there, and two station visits on the itinerary. First, Steve Masters station to drop off the meds and pick up Marine Paste. Then off to The Ascending Phoenix station to drop off the Mineral Extractors and pick up some precious metals. Rumor have it they got a good price on Palladium.

Basic Medicines went for 123 p/t. 6 Tons of Marine Paste picked up, and a side-order of meat, coffee and tea for our friends at the station next door. All of which went down well at about 180 p/t which is ok considering the very short travel distance of a couple of light-seconds. The far longer traveled Mineral Extractors sold at a very disappointing 165 p/t.

At 13,115 Palladium was not as cheap as I'd hope. Only 400 under GA (Galactic Average). So went for Gold instead, at 500 under GA.

---

End of part 1 of this Rare Goods Grand Tour. My spending-fund is at 2.3 million and change. Cargo hold contains 66 Tons of gold, and 38 tons of rare goods. The next leg of this tour will take me into Imp space. Which I do not like the thought of. I have no friends or standing with them. So unlike this little trip through Federation space, where I haven't been interdicted once, I expect some more action on the next installment. Or perhaps pirates just don't like fully armed Asps, who knows?

Entry # 2 - 14th Jan 3301 "The Rare Goods Grand Tour!" part 2

About to take a large big dip into Empire Space. Loaded with rares and gold. Goman is 176LY away, so a stop or two along the way is in the cards.

--- Chi Eridani > LTT 2337 ---

Plunge right in, to LTT 2337, a High-Tech system in the border region of Fed and Imp space. About 65LY and four jumps to get there.

Wow, the largest station, Bowen Terminal is 10,000LS away. Yeah, not happening. I'll drop by the outpost Weaver Laboratory. If they want my gold for at least 800 p/t, then fine. If not, I'm off again.

I am not one for long Super-Cruise travels. If it is not within 2500LS from my current location, it might as well be in another star-system for all I care. Reminds me of this practical joke the Fed Navy pulls on all new cadets that have just gotten their Sol permit - offer them a seemingly good deal to go deliver some light goods to the closest star system, Alpha Centauri, a mere 4LY away. What they don't tell you is that Hutton Base is the only Federation station there, and by station I mean outpost. They also don't tell you that Hutton Base is nearly a QUARTER of a LIGHT-YEAR away from the Hyperspace drop-off point. They must be laughing their collective posteriors off over at Admirality House. All those cadets, spending hours in Super-Cruise to deliver Tea to the outpost Commanding Officer.

I digress. Though I avoided biting into that particular bullet. A higher ranking friend whispered to me that, no, move along. Play tourist, snap some holos' of old Earth and new Mars, and do not accept anything with the name Alpha Centauri in it.

Anyhow, back to business, or rather the lack of it. At 317 p/t, my 66 tons of Gold will have to find another buyer. Bum stop, but it happens. Let's see if i can't find an Industrial or Tourism system, they like gold. For very different reasons, but I just care about the credits.

--- LTT 2337 > Wayutabal ---

Reber Station, Wayubatal system. Nearly 1100 p/t for my gold, that adds up to a nice little profit. Still 104LY from Goman, so another stop is necessary. Since Goman is Agriculture and Terraforming, somewhere High-Tech would be a nice place to pick up some goods.

Found one, Tacahuti, about 90 LY out. High Tech systems are quite picky in their imports, but a batch of cheap Computer Components, no doubt manufactured by slaves, will probably fetch a decent enough return on investment.

--- Wayutabal > Tacahuti ---

What was that, four or five jumps?! I lost count. Fuel is getting low though - so a fair bit of sucking up Hydrogen have to be done. Hmm, if I connected the coffee-maker to the Fuel-Scoop heat-exchanger, would it brew my cup'o'java faster?

Wow, they certainly don't waste peoples time here. Jones Terminal, a puny 35LS from the sun. Impressive, I like. Perhaps the antescendants of those living here was from one of the colder countries of old Earth. They got fed up with freezing their socks off, and overcompensated by turning the heat way up.

The Computer Components went down well. Sure, 361 p/t won't make anyone rich, but as said, High Tech systems are picky in their imports. They mainly only pay top credits for shiny metals, for everything else, they're a bit more frugal.

They do have a great sale on Land Enrichment Systems, nearly 800 under GA (Galactic Average). With a bit of luck, I'll make a killing selling those at Goman.

Speaking of Goman - it is where I'll unload my 38 Tons of rares. The place is bound to be bustling with activity, so there will be no risks taken. Drop in, head straight for Gustav Sporer Port and get rid of my very valuable cargo. Fortunately, the station is just a very short Super-Cruise from the Hyperspace drop-off.

--- Tacahuti > Goman ---

That was... remarkably uneventful. Okidoki then, let's take stock of the financial situation. My side-haul of Land Enrichment Systems sold for a comfortable 1131 p/t. My 15 Tons of Altairan skin netted 241k, 12 Tons of Tauri Chimes added 194k, 6 Tons of Chi Eridani Marine Paste another 98k and finally 5 Tons of Fujin Tea delivered a nice 81k to ice the cake.

Got me some 16 Tons of Goman Yaupon Coffee, mmmmmm, Coffee. Next stop Wuthielo Ku, an agricultural and industry system. Hmmm, what is this? Imp Slaves at 800cr below GA. I'm not a slave-runner, so I have my qualms. On the other hand, credits are credits, and it is not as if me not ferrying Imp Slaves around will somehow make the Imps change policy - or free those particular slaves for that matter. They certainly have enough of them in this system, nearly a quarter of a million. What are they doing? Breeding them?

It seems moot at any rate, no particular demand for Imp Slaves at the destination. They actually export them. Better bring some Tea and Coffee to the Industry station at Wuthielo Ku, before heading off to the Agriculture station and the rares on sale there.

--- Goman > Wuthielo Ku ---

Another long haul, 5 hops. Scooping plenty of fuel to top off the tanks again. This system do seem rather busy, even some humans around. Just hoping they are friendly. So inconvenient getting interdicted when scooping fuel. Gets real hot real fast.

Made it safe to Mattingly Gateway, unloaded my Tea and Coffee for a tiny profit. Filled up with Marine Equiptment and Crop Harvesters, took the short trip to Tarter Dock, unloaded that for a pretty decent profit actually.

Supply of Wuthielo Ku Froth was ok at 17 Tons. Whilst on the subject, a word of warning regarding the Froth. It is frowned upon in many Federation Systems, especially along the border. When transferring from Imp space to Alliance space later on, I'll have to pass through a lot of Federal systems, and better choose wisely which ones I dock at. Don't want to take any risks and ruin my reputation.

As a side-cargo, I brought... nothing. Delta Phoenicis is something as unusual as an Agricultural and High Tech system. No way to make credits on this one I am afraid. So better go for nothing than gamble on a loss.

--- Wuthielo Ku > Delta Phoenicis ---

Nnnnnnnnngh. The Trading Post station is 3500LS away. That is too far man, too far. But I got no choice. If I want some rares here, I got to make the trek. Not the most imaginative name for a station I've seen, Trading Post. Makes one think this system got settled by a bunch of physicists. But I must hand it to them, inside and out, this station is absolutely gorgeous. Such nice bright paintscheme, plenty of lighting, greenery everywhere and properly tidy. None of the clutter you see most everywhere else. A destination worth a visit just for the scenery.

...and the Delta Phoenicis Palms you can buy. Which I picked up 17 Tons of. Again no side cargo. Another agricultural to agricultural journey. These rare goods systems tend to be agricultural in nature, don't they? You'd think someone at least specialized in something more high-tech?

--- Delta Phoenicis > Aerial ---

'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay

And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose

Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life

Dumdidumdidum. Yes, could not help myself. Great song. A true classic that have stayed uniquely fresh after all these centuries since it was first released. The orchestra that composed it even got an entire sector of star systems named after them, well, the acronym of their name at least. And yes, it is way out on the galactic rim and no-one have actually been there yet as far as anyone knows. But it is a great honor still. It is not as if those over-rated 'Yellow Submarine' and 'Obladi-oblada' dudes got a system named after themselves.

Where was I. Ah, yes. Andrade Legacy station was only a blissfull 180LS from the Hyperspace drop-off point. That is much better. Even better, I am out of Imp space. To a degree. Aerial is independent, but just 70LY up from here is my dear Federation.

Picked up some 15 Tons of Eden Apples of Aerial. No idea where to next, just that it got to be in the general direction of Leesti. And seeing as this is as good a place as any to take a little rest, having picked up all the rares I can in this cluster of Imp space, I might as well.

Aw crap - entirely forgot. I need a stop at any given Imp system. I got 17k in unclaimed bounties that go way back that I haven't cashed in. But rest first. And some food. Do they have Pizza on this chunk of rotating metal?!

---

End of part two of this Rare Goods Grand Tour. Been surprisingly calm so far. Still not gotten interdicted, neither by NPC or player. They must really not fancy the idea of trying to wrestle loot from a well armed Asp. Perhaps if I tried this in a Type 6, they'd be swarming all over me?

The next installment will bring me into a couple of hot-zones though. I've heard both Leesti and Lave is a bee-hive of illicit behaviour. We'll see. I'm sure I can handle all that comes my way.

Entry # 3 - 15th Jan 3301 "The Rare Goods Grand Tour!" part 3

Time to collect my bounties with the Imps. Next stop is UGP 184. A nice little industrial and extraction system, so my staple cargo of coffee and tea will surely be appreciated there. But due to low supply, the farmers on this world must be lazy, had to diversify with meat, beer and some booze.

--- Aerial > UGP 184 ---

Bohrmann Terminal station, just 21LS from the sun. That must be a new record. Even though it is easy to think of the Empire as evil to the core, it is more correct to think of them as slightly old fashioned in their ways. Even they are not as a callous to name a station after Bormann, the nefarious henchman of one of the more evil regimes known to man. So to clear up any confusion, Bohrmann, with an 'H' stuck in there, was a somewhat known astronomer back on old Earth who lived many centuries ago, before the diaspora.

Back on track - sold my side cargo for a tiny profit. If fuel weren't free, I'd probably lose credits on this trip. Did cash in my bounty-vouchers though. 17k added to my account. Nice.

Next stop is Leesti, and only 98LY away. Think I'll just bounce right through Federal space to avoid any awkward questions regarding my cargo of Wuthielo Ku Froth. That is, got to make one stop at an extraction system. Leesti is High Tech and Refinery. They'd like some shiny metals and minerals. So picked up some Mineral Extractors and Basic Meds. Now sift through the map and see what I can find that isn't too far off the planned route.

--- UGP 184 > Heikegani ---

Deep in Fed space, but independent. Saves me trouble with the Feds. Is industrial and Extraction, a bit of a concern given my side cargo.

Bartlett Gateway, 97LS away. I do love these short Super-Cruise distances. That's odd. Bartlett is owned by the Imps - this far into Fed space? This won't last, surely. But from odd to downright depressing - made a tiny profit selling the Mineral Extractors, which got eaten up by a loss on the Basic Meds. And no shiny metals for sale.

They got some good deals on minerals though. I'm going to hedge with roughly equal amounts of Bertrandite, Gallite and Indium.

Next stop Leesti. Let's hope it isn't quite as dangerous as some reports make it out to be. I do have 65 Tons of rares in my cargo-hold, which is worth a considerable amount of credits. A magnet for any aspiring pirate.

--- Heikegani > Leesti ---

Wow, quite a few humans around - some must have been up to no good as I saw them extend their hardpoints. I made it without incident to the George Lucas station however. Imagine that, naming a station after a childrens-movie director, Oh well, to each their own.

First on the agenda, since in Alliance space, cash in my bounty vouchers that have been lingering for quite a while now. 31 thousand added to my account. Next up, the side cargo. The Bertrandite would go at a loss, so kept that. Gallite did a nice 499 p/t for 6,5k. Indite would also go at a loss, so kept that as well.

Now for the main event - rares. Delta Phoenicis Palms, 17 Tons, 271k profit. Another 271k profit from the 17 Tons of Wuthielo Ku Froth, glad to be rid of it. 16 Tons of Goman Yaupun Coffee made me another 262k and finally 15 Tons of Eden Apples of Aerial hauled in 237k in profit. Not bad.

A 5 billion population High Tech system like Leesti must have a nice selection of toys on sale. And indeed they do. All I can want of upgrades for my Asp, the A5 shield Generator included. Though I won't get that quite yet. I will get the A grade KWS. It is a million and change, but I got this feeling that as soon as this rare-run is over, I'm going to need it. And got me a Frame Shift Wake Scanner to fill up my empty utility slot. Will come in handy soon as well. They only had a C grade model on sale, so did not put me back more than 121k.

Finally got me 11 Tons of Leestian Evil Juice and 6 Tons of Azure Milk. Got me some Land Enrichment Systems as a side cargo. Seen it sold cheaper, but Orrere which is my next stop is Agricultural and got a huge population, will want some I am sure.

--- Leesti > Orrere ---

Strangest thing happened, when exiting George Lucas at Leesti, some stupid HE Dumbfire started shooting at me. With puny little pulse lasers. Took no hits, so not a crisis or anything, yet I'd like to have a serious chat with who-ever planted that thing there.

The jump to Orrere went smooth as always, scooped some fuel which is nice and relaxing. Then -ALERT ALERT- got interdicted. Finally some action. Pips to Systems and Weapons, hardpoints out... and a fuse must have blown. Not enough juice. Shields down, no thrusters, taking damage.

Frantically setting priorities for systems. After three tries I finally got it up and running ready for combat after disabling Point Defenses, my new toy the Frame Shift Wake Scanner, and also Life Support. My assailant was a puny Eagle. After a quick Kill Warrant Scan, he came up as wanted in the Empire, 3k and change bounty on his head. My two beamers and four multi-cannons dispatched the threat in seconds. But my fumbling with prioritizing modules, not to mention my shields powering down every time I exceeded the power limit when trying to find the right power-load, I sustained a fair bit of hull damage. Was down to 78% before I got things working properly.

After this unfortunate encounter I made my way to the Sharon Lee Free Market station. Repairs was a discouraging 44k. At least I know what my next upgrade will be - a new Power Generator...

Picked up 16 Tons of Orrere Vicious Juice and made my way to the next stop.

--- Orrere > Diso ---

Got to Shifnalport without any trouble. Picked up 15 Tons of their Diso Ma Corn.

The upcoming stop will be interesting. Not been to Lave for, oh I don't know, 20 years. Well, not been to this entire sector in the same period, but Lave do have a special part in my heart. Can't believe I've not visited for all this time. Apparently, it is one of the central hubs of human activity in the Galaxy right now. With all the good, bad and ugly that entails. I am not fit to fight humans, so let's hope I avoid that at least.

--- Diso > Lave ---

Made my way to Lave Station trouble-free. Plenty of people around, nearly 4000 have visited here the last 24 hours. Mostly Cobras, Asps and Type 6. Even 3 'Condas and a whopping 38 Pythons. Where do these people get the credits from? The biggest villain have amassed a bounty on his head for nearly 700k. Leaps and bounds ahead of the next in line who "only" got 430k.

Anyway, picked up the last of my rares, 7 Tons of Lavian Brandy. Not much else on offer at good prices, apart from leather, so stocked up on that. Now to get home to Tavgi. Post Haste.

--- Lave > Tavgi ---

150LY in who knows how many jumps. Gordon Enterprise station, Home sweet Home!

Now lets tally up the loot. First the Bertrandite and Indite made a little profit. The Leather I need to find a nice Industrial system to offload on. The rares however, the 16 Tons of Orrerian Vicious Brew netted 248k, 15 Tons of Diso Ma Corn went for 230k in profit, 7 Tons of Lavian Brandy another 115k and finally 6 Tons of Azure Milk profiting 99k. My 11 Tons of Leestian Evil Juice is not accepted here, and no Black Market either. But I know where to get rid of it, together with the Leather.

But first thing first. My D5 Power Plant is out, hello B5 Power Plant! That put a 1.5 million dent in my A5 Shield Generator budget, but at the very least I can now enter into fights without powering down important systems.

Kigandan is right next door, is Industrial and I know they got a Black Market for my Evil Juice.

--- Tavgi > Kigandan ---

Sold off the Evil Juice - on the regular market even. Must be Tavgi that is a bit restrictive. Also the Leather and some Performance Enhancers I brought along. Made about 170k in profit.

---

That's it for the Rare Goods Grand Tour. It was not as exciting as I'd hoped. Only got interdicted once, which was a bit of a let-down. So obviously, now I got this need to change it up a bit. Shoot something. I hear there is trouble brewing in the Sugrivik system and that my dear Federation could need some help. It is only 24LY away.

As far as profits go, I can do better with regular cargo, and much faster. Problem with rares is two-fold. First, it is only available in very limited amounts at each location. Second, to make max profit from them, you need to travel 150LY at least before selling them. So if in anything bigger than a Cobra, rares isn't really worth it. If in said Cobra or smaller on the other hand, then it is the most profitable trade you can do I think.

With empty cargo I am now at 3.1 million in cash, which is a meager 300k more than I started with. Then again, I did spend close to 2 million in upgrades and repairing damages. So not bad per-se. Certainly more varied than doing my milk-run trade route, even though boring as that is, I could make those 2 million in a little over an hour and a half.

As for the future, we'll see what I get up to. It will involve shooting though, that much is certain. Had enough pure trading for a while.

A bit delayed this one, as it took some time to get all things up and running - and the not so insignificant fact that I am slightly lazy.

But it is here now, and in a different format than plenty of text:

After this, headed back to Gordon Enterprise in the Tavgi system to collect my bounties. Changed back to my Asp to do some weapons running to help out the Feds in the Ovimbiabas system. Since then and until now, mainly done a bit of trading. Needed to make some credits to get that Asp fit to fight. Nearly there. Got the credits now, I just need to build up a little cushion of about 2 million for the insurance and a bit of spending money. Since replacing the D3 Shield generator with an A5 will reduce the cargo capacity of my Asp quite significantly, I also went ahead and splashed out some 2 million and change for a Type 6 with mostly D class modules, and a B class FSD.

Entry #5 - 19th of January 3301 "Roidal Renovation"

Finally. After literally hours of saving up, I had enough credits to my name to blow a sizeable chunk on upgrading my Asp. Kitting it out for some pir, uhm, privateering. Naturally though, my cunning plan went slightly awry. Turns out, and who'd a' thunk it, A5 Shield Generator eats a lot of power... some prioritizing was in order.

Anyhow, enough babbling...

Enjoy :)

(music in the end montage is by Overwerk, track is named 'Signal'. Everybody and their grandmother must have heard his 'Daybreak' by now so couldn't use that without being accused of being unoriginal.)

Entry #6 - 20th of January 3301 "Right button Chaff, left button Shield Cell!"

Did some minor tweaks to my Asp. Replaced the fixed center beamers with gimbal ones, and disabled both side beamers to get my Hatch Breaker up and running. Then thought 'Hey, let's test this puppy against some proper opposition, rather than random common criminals!'. A nice juicy contract was offered, 178k for one particularly nasty criminal.

Went sniffing around until someone whispered in my ear that my prey could be found in LHS 1122. Promtly went over there, and indeed I found him as I got close to the main station in that system.

At first the fight went swimmingly. Hey, I got 9 Shield Cells and plenty of chaff. Two beamers and two MCs isn't any more firepower than my Cobra got, but the shields are quite a bit tougher. After a while the shields got whittled down a bit, so I was about to recharge it in a hurry. Nothing happened. Pressed my SCB button again and again, and I heard a very familiar sound - chaff dispersing around my ship...

Next I heard another familiar sound - from my ships computer. 'Shields Offline' the friendly voice said in a very soothing voice. And just to hammer it in, also flashed it across the HUD. Brilliant. I pressed the wrong frakkin' button whilst in the heat of battle.

One thing my Cobra have that my Asp do not, is Military Grade hull plating. So I watched in astonishment as my Lightweight Alloy hull strength got reduced at an alarming rate. Panic ensued. Full pips to engines and boost, boost I say, faster, boost away to relative safety. When I finally got out of range of the Anacondas lasers, my hull was down to 15%.

Kept my distance until my shields was back up. Contemplated just turning tail and egress for some repairs. A stubborn little part of me however got the upper hand. 'Frack it, in for a penny, in for a pound! Quitting now is a certain loss, shooting the miscreant to pieces will at least recover most my cost!'

So got back into the fray. Did not lose shields for the remainder of the fight. Learned my lesson - SCB is left button, chaff is right.

In the end, repairs was 170k and ammo about 3k. Bounty plus mission reward 216k. So did manage to eke out a profit in the end. And in the future, I am sure I can get those 'Condas down without a single scratch to myself.

Still need a bit of upgrades. Going from B to A grade Power Plant will cost about 3.5 million. Also I'd love some new thrusters, only got D grade now. A new set of those is an easy 5 million. Finally, Military Grade hull plating would make sense at some point. Though I think I can buy a stock Type 7 for the cost of that plating, so it is not a priority right now.

Long time no update...

I've been busy, doing this, that and the other thing. Right now doing a bunch of missions for the Evil Empire. Not that I sympathise with them by any account - Federation 4 Life - but they do have a piece of hardware I do very much want to get my mitts on...

So far Knight of the Empire, two more ranks to go until Baron, and the Clipper is mine.

But it is not a grind, by far. Doing a lot of varied little things to keep me occupied, amongst them, tried a bit of pirating a while back.

Went pretty well actually...

Though from a pure profit point of view, not that great, especially in an Asp. I think a well equipped Cobra is more suited for going preying on Type 6 and Hauler commanders. Even Asp commanders as I had a very unfortunate experience with a bit later...

Name of Commander is jotted down, and if I ever see the miscreant again...
