Galactic Base Jumping Open Final - Njokujinun System

Galactic Base Jumping Open Final - Njokujinun System - Sunday

Date: 10th January 3302, 14 00 UTC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNGSP6YxqAs

Competitors will find the event mountain for this year's Galactic Base Jumping Open Final - Njokujinun System , Planet 1. Location is planet side at Lat -13 Long -128. Emergency and First Aid is located at Nyberg Vision Station in low orbit.

Galactic Base Jump Champion CMDR Burias will be mountainside to authorize jumps. When interviewed at a press conference after securing last year's title, CMDR Burias put the reporter over the edge shouting:

"Bro, do you even thrust?"

This year's final is a "7.5 km +" category qualification event and therefore points will count toward the start of next season.

We have Prize Credits. The winner is decided by a panel of 3 Judges based on points in the 4 events/points eligable areas:

Best Crash (if you fail to crash for any reason but score well in the other 3 areas, then you will win bonus points, this is a wildcard category)
Longest Freefall (landed, and alive)
Best Base Jump (can include tricks for extra style)
Place in the Downhill Race.

Head Judge CMDR MeglaManiac will oversee proceedings.

You will need to pre-register by 1200 10th January 3302 (2016) UTC with CMDR PeachSlicesV (me) as the requirement to private group for competition jumps could happen. Unregistered jumps are deemed practice and do not count.

For a sample of what you are letting yourself in for, have a visit of this thread for video:

Alas I am working, but any form of recording (even just a lone Wilhelm Scream on repeat for three minutes) would be good to link to.

I think I've already expressed my enthusiasm but this is me saying yes, I'm signing up and will definitely be there (unless I can't, or I forget).

Cmdr Alec Turner

I've also sent an in-game friend request and am going to try and find the location tomorrow morning.

I'm guessing this is the place ...

The following message is preceeded by this basic warning, you might blow up doing any or all of the activities procrastinated, demonstrated or otherwise alluded to in this post. Bounties and Powerplay Merits will be lost if this happens. You have been warned, cash your cheques ;)

So I have surveyed the location for Jumps tommorow, Geo Stationary and Solar Wind conditions look favorable, Equipment is readily available at all 3 stations in system.

Jumps will be recorded should a Judges Enquiry and most likely available on YouTube or Twitch, subject to Internet Weather.

Could all interested competitors drop me a message with your in game name AND apply to the following group in-game PeachSlicesV. We will form up at 2pm outside Nyberg Vision and perform the nessesary parachute and safety briefings ;)

Feel free to bring your friends to participate, they must be in the private group to take part in the Main event.

Instructions: Buy one (or 2 or 3) of these in the star port, Nyberg Vision 2ls (!) off surface and practically geo stationary:

A Cobra Mark III can fit 2 without further upgrades (2 SRV each) for a meagre 600k, and you only spend 30k on the 10% loss. Maximum fun minumum cost. Like so:

Almost any ship will do, dont forget your planetary approach suite, if you took it off for any reason.

Then just drop down to surface find a nice spot with a steep bit, get yourself to a drop off and BOOOOOOOOOST!

Refill SRV's at the station. Repeat and Stir.

Good luck and see you Nyberg Vision 2pm UTC/GMT.

OK, well that was awesome fun! Actually, possibly one of the most awesome and visually spectacular things I've done in this game.

Met up, somewhat randomnly, with Cmdr Sn0wman and we decided we'd go for it by ourselves. Then I had to fuel rescue Sn0wman (luckily I'm a fully qualified Fuel Rat) then PeachSlices turned up (following some RL delays) and the three of us spent a couple of hours flinging our buggies off the top of the 7.5km high summit in a non-competetive but nevertheless extremely enjoyable series of basejumps (most, but not all, of which ended up in fiery balls of death on the rocks far FAR below).

Unfortunately some disconnects and instancing problems slightly plagued the end of the session but I have hours of footage and will endeavour to get the best bits online sometime in the coming week. I'll post a YouTube link here as and when it's available.

Thanks to Peachslices for organising (even if the final turnout was somewhat disappointing).

And finally, here's a screenshot of the ED launcher that I took today. Too bad this appeared so late in the day or we could have had many more commanders on board.

hate that I missed it, but I had to be at work an hour before you guys started. could you post a list of the winners of your event?

evening CMDR´s !

Joined to say "thank you very much" for refuelling my FDL and the funny time we had on this rocky ugly-potatoe ;)
and yes, my arrival was very randomly, cause i didnt played elite a few month and struggled about buying the Horizons-Season,
but in the end all the fun we had is unpayable and worth every penny i spend.

I saw a post last week on FB about these "Fuel-Rat"-Guys, maybe at ED-Club (?!) - anyhow i didnt thought i would ever need such
a "guardian-angel" - but as i bought the SRV-Modul, i kicked my Class3 Fuel-Scoop into outer-space ... damn - i forgot (!) ...

At street we have "General German Automobile Assosiation" - shortname "ADAC" - in ED-space a Fuel-Rat can save your life, cause
that lost had cost me 7.5 Mio kick-in-the-ass Credits ... take care Guys and let me know, if you "wing-up" again !

Pictures are "cropped", cause i play on triple-screen at 5760x1080 ... waiting for the Video on YT :)))

cheers guys, have a good time - greetings from Germany

Video will follow on YouTube of the Event that took place today.

We are very grateful to announce that the First Base Jumping Final went off without a hitch.

We welcome any further support such as the publishing on Galnet that we received, today on the Launcher no less.

Unfortunately the extremity of the event led the turnout to be a small bunch of Elite Base-Jumpers, and even they had some trepidation at making this particular drop in. Two Jumps from a total of 10 were landed successfully.

Commander Alec Turner won the event in a stylish 8km drop off, landing the jump but then colliding with a rather unwelcome rock shortly thereafter.

Please post the whereabouts of any large mountains, well lit canyons, or unusal landable features on low medium g worlds (0.02-0.10g (or perhaps above). A simple system and planetary number and if you have coordinates all the better. Perferably near the starting systems.

The new season will begin in Febuary.

Gathering on the start line.

My first jump ...

For those that are about to jump,
May the mountain make them truly grateful.

Note: alas (or perhaps thunkfully) the audio for my own commentary failed to record.
