In Summary: Thargoids have been around in the Milky Way, for an unknown amount of time, but what is known is that they are most likely a Type 3 civilization, much like our civilization. We first made contact with them around 3200’s when they invaded the human bubble for the first time, without warning. How they made this mysterious and perhaps mass invasion was by their highly advanced technology, which included FSD’s that could operate in Witch-Space as we can in normal space. What these aliens did was they would hunt targets inside witchspace, interdicting them when in the middle of a witchspace jump, and throwing the victim into normal space in front of the Thargoid vessel, which opened fire and destroyed the poor victim.
What are Thargoids: Thargoids are an all female, insectoid species, resembling mantises. The biology of the Thargoid is known to include an alloy of some sort that they have also used to create core internal modules, including the FSD drives. The Thargoids are hive-minded, and their pilots’ minds have been altered so the pilots no longer experience fear or sympathy. This species has most likely existed for thousands of years, and possibly have existed since before humans. They originate from an unknown sector of space, or perhaps even another galaxy or universe all-together. From what we know, their civilization is a Type-3, but could be a theoretical Type-4 civilization. For reference, I rate human civilization as Type-2, but borderline Type-3.
Thargoid Technology and Weaponry: Ships: Octagonal in shape, these ships are a cylindrical core surrounded by 8 rotating sections. These ships are made out of an unknown material, but is a different material to the FSD and other internals. The metal, which has never been touched by a human weapon, is strong enough to resist an impact with planets with relatively little to no damage other than the struts holding the ship together coming apart and scattering the ship.
The (1st) Disappearance of The Thargoids: After a short war with the Thargoids, the Federation constructed a hyper-mycoid, an engineered fungus that could infiltrate Thargoid ships and eat away at materials inside of their FSD. The fungus had devastating effects on the Thargoids themselves as it ate away at the species as well as the FSD they used. Many thought that the Federation had committed genocide and made the Thargoids extinct as the fungus grew and spread across the Thargoid population. The knowledge of how to engineer and replicate the fungus has either been lost, or is locked behind the highest security inside of the Federation archives. My theory is that the Thargoids we see now are of the same generation, or the next generation, which are back with a vengeance on humanity for their fallen comrades. The current Thargoids may or may not be immune to the Hyper-Mycoid used in 2255.
Probes, Barnacles, and Alloys: Recently, as of 3302, strange probes have been showing up in and near Merope, the old home of the Thargoids. When encountered the probes would disable ships for a short time. Holding these probes inside of the ship’s storage would cause damage to the modules of the ship over time. A short while after these probes were seen, organic structures nicknamed Barnacles began to be discovered on atmosphere-less planets, surrounded by pillars that Meta-Alloys were growing on. Destroying the pillars would either release a meta-alloy bulb, or smaller bulbs containing materials such as iron. Barnacles have been linked to Thargoids as many Commanders have encountered Thargoids scanning or refueling at these strange metallic/organic structures. The first real re-contact with the Thargoids happened in February of 3303 where human ships have started to be torn out of witchspace once again by these Octagonal ships, only to be scanned before the Thargoid ship retreats back into witchspace.
The New Thargoids: What We Know: So far, we know about the new Thargoids is that their numbers are in either the tens to hundreds, and they’ve been sighted from Maia to Sol, roughly a 500 ly “Thargoid Bubble” centered around Merope. These Thargoids are capable of destroying an entire convoy of multiple Ferraguts with ease using only 1 ship, though the only known attack used multiple ships. They have only attacked Federal pilots, but the rest of humanity may very soon be pulled into a second war with the Thargoids. A very recent discovery has shown that the Thargoids have a base stationed in the HIP 19026 system. It is currently unknown if it is inhabited or abandoned, and we have no idea if it was a past outpost, or a main base of operations. Sightings of Thargoid Scavengers have been sighted at the base, their name hinting at the base being abandoned for some time, but the new Thargoids having seen this old base and are currently exploring it for anything that the base may contain.
The Possible Future: With the Hyper-Mycoid either lost, locked behind Federal doors, or the Thargoids developing an immunity, our hope lies in fighting in ship-to-ship combat, using reverse-engineered weapons gained from Unknown Fragments, Meta-Alloys, and the Thargoid ship data we’ve collected in the past few years. It is currently unknown if the Thargoids are after the Federation alone, or all of humanity as a whole, but what is known is that they have been confirmed as hostile. We most likely will not be able to sign a peace treaty with the Thargoids as they’ve in the past refused all attempts for peace.
My Thoughts on The New Thargoids: I would advise everyone to remain calm, and to prepare to either evacuate to a safe section of the bubble or to Colonia. Commanders who want to stay should prepare to help the research of Anti-Thargoid weaponry be developed, and be ready to take up arms with these experimental weaponry to drive back the Thargoids if tensions evolve into war. I believe personally that war with this species is unavoidable, and that the only way to make the Milky Way safe for humans would, sadly, be to destroy every Thargoid. The Guardians most likely haven’t encountered this species as if they did, our “Bubble” would be under Thargoid control from the beginning of our expansion into the depths of space. Personally I hope that we can eventually engineer FSDs capable of freely navigating witchspace, as witchspace is full of mysteries and tales of structures in witchspace. Perhaps, could the Thargoids not only operate in witchspace, but be living and have colonized it since the beginning of their expansion into our part of the Milky Way, only taking up arms against humans once they noticed vast amount of human ships travelling in their home space?

Thank you all for reading. This is a repost of my 1st Galactic Bugle article I wrote for /r/EliteDangerous. I thought that some other people may be interested in reading it so I'm posting it here for more people to enjoy. I look forward to hearing feedback and how I can make these weekly news articles exciting and fun to read. Thank you again!
Welcome to the first article of the Galactic Bugle, a possible weekly to bi-weekly news series covering events happening around our beloved home of the Milky Way Galaxy. This article is going to be a special article covering our rivals of the Milky Way, Thargoids. In Summary: Thargoids have been around in the Milky Way, for an unknown amount of time, but what is known is that they are most likely a Type 3 civilization, much like our civilization. FSD: Their FSD, which is constructed from the same alloy that the Thargoids themselves are made out of, allows the capability to travel in witchspace as we can normally in Normal Space and Supercruise. The speed that this FSD allows are possibly up to 20k+ the speed of light.
Shield Generators: These advanced shield generators have little information on them. They may have been made of the same material as the FSD, but we know that they are extremely strong. All human weaponry is ineffective against these shields, allowing the Thargoids to hunt humans without any threat to themselves.
Weaponry: Thargoid weapons in the past consisted of launched drones, around 4-10 drones per ship, the drones have small but powerful kinetic weaponry on board, and are either manned by a single thargoid, or are unmanned drones operating under AI control. The main ship itself was equipped with powerful kinetic and thermal weaponry that could tear human ships to shreds within seconds. Their current weaponry at this time is unknown, but wreckage of a Federation Convoy has shown that they are using corrosive and radioactive weapons. The (1st) Disappearance of The Thargoids: After a short war with the Thargoids, the Federation constructed a hyper-mycoid, an engineered fungus that could infiltrate Thargoid ships and eat away at materials inside of their FSD.
