Galactic exploration

I find it annoying to always have to jump from system to system to advance into the galaxy, especially since the jump time is not proportional to the distance. It would be good if not to propose another way of moving in the galaxy, some more realistic scenario, which is really close to the space travels of films.

You're right that jump times are independent of jump distance, that's because it's a loading screen, it takes that long to load in the data for the new system. If they were to introduce longer times for longer jumps, the short jumps would still take the current (minimum required) time, so all it would do is introduce more waiting in a game already full of time-sinks.

If there were a 'creative mode' way to zoom into a system on the galmap it would somewhat undermine the point of travelling to many systems in your ship. You would already know what was there, so you would only visit those systems & miss the opportunity to be surprised or challenged.

I am currently doing the grand tour (anti-clockwise) in a fully equipped Corvette with a 19Ly jump range. With that low a jump range the galaxy is no longer just a connected series of dots, it's a maze with dead ends & clumps that can trap you without good planning.

I would not want that challenge to be taken away. Have you tried Space Engine?

I've never actually timed a jump - like, a 7ly jump vs a 30ly jump. But my gut feeling is that a jump (in faster-than-light hyperspace) is what it is. I've never thought it was unrealistic (about a thing that's ultimately unrealistic). There's a point very early in ED where "realistic" doesn't work anymore.

Space Engine is amazing. However, I haven't gotten around to using it for some time because I'm trying my hardest to get back to the bubble after being stuck in a maze without scoopable stars in my 49Ly Jump range Asp (out in Mare Desperations). Need to get back before I forget how to dock like I did the last time I was out of the Bubble for 11 months.

But yes Space Engine is great...
