Galactic map search function doesn't seem to work on a lot of system names

I've noticed this before as well - I'll type in a system with a long obscure name with a long alphanumerical designation such as, for example, COL 70 Sector EA-S b7-0. The search will come up with nothing - and I've made sure it's typed in correctly, even making taking case sensitivity into account, typing it exactly like it is written in the screengrab I took of the system map (even though it's all caps when you type it no matter what you do. I tried to type it every way I could think of, and I can never seem to find interesting systems I discovered before again through the search function.

Am I doing something wrong? I even took a shot of one system's position in the galaxy, several of them to be exact, and tried to use grid coordinates to find it again, but I'm either blind or the star didn't render where it's supposed to be. To be fair, I was quite far away from said systems when I tried it for the last time, is it possible this is an LOD issue, and some stars get culled from the map if you're far away, also resulting in them not showing up in search results?

Yeah, the search function is broken for long alphanumeric names. I actually had to redo one of my routes when I wrote down my target system before shutting down for the day, then when I searched for it it came up with a totally different system almost 50kly away from the 1kly jump route I was working through.

It'd be nice if the search function worked as a real time filter, with a range you can set. For example, set range of 500ly, type in NGC 2264 Sector TT and then all stars in specified range that begin with this name pop out.. Not to mention being able to save routes, drop your own custom navpoints that save, etc.

Here's hoping for some improvements in a future, more exploration oriented update :)

I've also noticed this problem but I've noticed something else which can be a work around. If you click the navigation option multiple times (three times works for me often) then the long system names will finally be found after two goes when nothing happens. I first did this accidentally out of sheer frustration but it has now worked for me on several occasions with different systems, although I'm not sure it is 100% reliable. The other thing that catches me out is that the last symbol is often the number 0 rather than the letter O.

Yes, I've been trying zero's and o's just in case, didn't have luck either way. I've pretty much tried every way of spelling it without success, but thank you for your workaround - I'll give that a shot, hope it works until we can get some galaxy map updates :)

A lot of names from real life astronomical data is not exactly the same in game or even there at all. Also, I commented on this earlier today in another thread, I was searching for HD7583 and the first time you hit search, it brings up some other system entirely. Hit search again and it takes you right to it.... in a round about way.

I really wish things, in game, were listed as they are in real life. It would make it SO much easier to find what you want!

If the real life catalogue entry is in the game then a search should find it. Thing is a lot of them aren't in game (too many of the measurements have huge error bars that essentially make them an entry that says 'there's a star of some kind which is some distance in that direction and that's all we got') and a fair few are in several catalogues and under several entries - but they should all show up to search in that case.

However, the search has been buggy as all hell for a while now...

Sorry but this is inexcusable !!! It has been like this for a long time , because they know how well behaved we are on the forums !!!!!!!

Yup, best workaround are the map dimension coordinates. I just note the name of the star and coordinates on sheet of paper before logging out.
That way I don't have to pick a new target for my exploration each time when I don't pick some HIP system as a next leg in my trip :)
