Galactic Power: Who do I choose?

Well, I'm currently this:

FEDERATION
Reputation: ALLIED
Rank: POST COMMANDER

EMPIRE
Reputation: NEUTRAL
Rank: NONE

ALLIANCE
Reputation: NEUTRAL

...and I like to hang out at Sol because I want to see what's going to happen on Earth when planetary landings comes in (also M. Gorbachev is my favourite station - feels like home). However I'm primarily an explorer - and the entire Solar system is controlled by ZACHARY HUDSON, and well...he seems like a bit of a d***, who's gonna want me to blow stuff up all the time, right? So the alternative is to go with FELICIA WINTERS, but she's not in control of Sol and probably doesn't have as much power and therefore may not grant access to top-secret missions (if they do indeed exist at any point)?

Now, my thinking is I want to progress as far as I can in the Federation and then possibly change sides later on when it benefits me or whoever...basically I want to be one of the good guys but I also want full access to Earth and any interesting top secret or high rank missions which may come along.

Thoughts? Or should I just sod it and not bother picking anyone? ...and now I think about it, what differences does it actually make anyway?

Either go roleplay and choose the one whose ideals you prefer, or go pragmatic and choose the one whose rewards best fit your playstyle.

Either go roleplay
I can't do roleplay - that's where you pretend right? Nah - games either have stuff in or they don't to me.

Side with someone else and help them take Sol? :)
Does that actually happen though? ...and even if Sol can get taken by another power, will it like ever happen in a million years - because if I remember correctly, players impact on the galaxy since release has been basically nothing, no matter how hard people tried to make something change.

This is PowerPlay. What players have done in the past is completely irrelevant. Everything has changed now.

Why not do both? I've joined up with Aisling for now to get the fancy faction shields and after a month of helping her, I'll go buy prismatic shields for all my ships, carefully relocate them out of Empire space, then defect to my true faction.

Then I'm off exploring for a couple months far away where no assassins spawn. The perfect crime. :D

I'm in the same boat as you, OP. I'm ranked as Friendly to both the Empire and the Federation, but I have no military rank yet in any of them. As it stands, I went Arissa purely for the +20% bounty payouts she gives since I make my money mostly from bounty hunting.

Go with what suits your play style.

Yeah it's a tricky one...just from looking at him, I do feel very much like punching Zachary Hudson repeatedly in the face...but I'll probably end up picking him because, well...Earth and that.

Yeah, because like...I see it on my computer screen and hear it through my speakers.

Now this an interesting view point. Either you really misunderstand what roleplaying is, or you honestly think roleplaying means going insane enough to think the gameworld is real. Both options are really amusing in their own way. :p

EXACTLY this. I think I will go to Hudson as I feel I am 50/50 Bounty Hunter/Explorer (I have Dangerous Combat and Ranger Exploring ranks) + Hudson gives good Bounty compensation increases + he controls SOL.
I was considering maybe number 8 because he has the exploration/science focus but I don't feel he has to offer me much or maybe number 10 because he seems ok, but for a galactic power with support of less people than China he seems really weak and maybe the first one to go...

Sounds like you're getting in character
lol :)

Yeah I really don't know myself. Exploration is what interests me. Show me some aliens or something...but I think the federation military probably has the dirty on all the thargoid stuff...again, assuming that this kind of secret mission stuff will be in the game later.

It's a bit disappointing to see only two Federal options, but I don't regard Hudson as what you claim. Going by the profile, it's more a case of if you want to plunge the economy into social wellfare programmes (Winters) or believe that maintaining a strong military is the key (Hudson). It doesn't look like he's any more of a proverbial warmonger than any of the others. More like a 'guard our borders and remain ever-vigilant' kind of a person.

In effect, he basically seems like the Federal opposite number to the bearded Imperial guy we've kept seeing mug shots of, these last weeks.

Also, keep note that it seems even most of Winters' own supporters apparently voted her out of power, so... She's probably been horrifically weak on defence/bad on the economy, for that to occur. :)

Alright fair do's, I'll go with Hudson then. Screw it; Bum the galaxy.

That's one way of looking at it. What I generally get from the Federation is that they are much like 'Murica, capitalistic superpowers with Winters' side as the Liberals (Democrats) and Hudson's side as the Militarists (hardcore Republicans). In real-life I would tend more to the Liberals, but in game, I want action and pew-pew so Hudson might be the way to go. Hey at least he doesn't support slavery...
