Galactic Research Expedition

I recently took the trip out to Cat's Paw so that I could "test the waters" of deep space exploration. I soon found that I not only enjoyed my trip, but while I was there found myself not staring at the surrounding beauty of the Cat's Paw Sector. Instead I kept staring at the galactic core, longing to go there and see what I can find. I'm currently on the last half of the trip back from the Cat's Paw. I'm only stopping for maybe a day or two to finalize the kit on the Anaconda before I head out. I plan on heading to the core mapping what I can. I will be stopping at the Cat's Paw to meet up with some of my wing mates that are still out there (shout out to Larzok for staying in the Cat's Paw, Data-logging for the Vaeleden). After that, I will head to NGC 6357 and from there, the core. After I make the hard trek through the core I intend on going to Beagle Point and down the left side of the galactic plane and back to the bubble. This being my first long-term trip, I need all the help I can get. I'd like suggestions on anything I might need to know or something I might need to bring. Any help is appreciated. TL;DR What do I need for a 200k+ LY trip.

Good for you and good luck on your trip.

I am on way back from Beagle point around the western side and these are the things I wish I had bought with me.

1) A charger for my phone
2) Another hat
3) Two more clean pairs of socks
4) Six more tonnes of Vodka
5) Rechargeable toilet paper
6) A nipple duster
7) A hamster with an amusing name
8) A glow stick
9) 2 Rubber duckies
10) A useful shield for when I get back to the bubble and am set upon by 2.1 NPC's

A 32.9 LY ship is all you need if you can do 35 ish LY on fumes. A heat sink might be useful (it was for me).

Some useful things to know. Throttle to zero on jump, your first Neutron star WILL get you if you are not careful and there are no burger bars out there so take plenty of sandwiches.

Be safe out there commander!

I would certainly take a heat sink. And don't be tempted to go for the smallest shields, weakest thrusters and puniest power distributors possible; if you're going to be landing on planets a lot, it helps to be able to avoid crashing and to land hard; being able to boost can be a ship saver. Especially now that you can make use of the Engineers, there's no need to skimp on ship systems - you should be able to put together a ship now which can outjump any of the old tinfoil explorers and still take care of itself.

I would take one AFMU; you shouldn't need more than one, because you will generally be worrying about hull damage, which can't be repaired. But if you're reasonably careful you needn't take damage from any but the most unfortunate situations. I usually take more damage, but I made it out to BP fast and with only 2% hull damage, and that was from inattention.

Are you researching anything in particular?

Yeah I refuse to fly without being able to boost and with the crazy NPCs I am already flying with decent shields.

DSS, ADS, ship you're happy to live in for months. Everything else is fluff.

AFMU can be useful, heatsinks allegedly so (have none, only had one time I would've used one and it wasn't that bad without). Enough shields to land safely and an SRV hangar if you want to do that. Enough shields/boost to run away from bogies when you get back - tooled up to fight is an option but it will cost you a lot of range, trying to go halfway between runner and fighter will never work, you need to know you will win if you stand or know you can and will run.

Mostly and most importantly, a ship you're happy to live in for months. Just started my 10th month out in my Cobra and I still enjoy flying her - that's definitely the most important thing.

Currently on my list of stuff to bring with me:
-Personal Computer
-Tons of the fluffiest and softest socks I can get my hands on
-Blankets
-Snacks
-6 SRVs
-Double AFMUs
-Stuffed animals
-Pictures of the girlfriend
-GUNS
-Anaconda bobblehead
-A flash drive with all the best musics
-Alcohol for those late nights at the base camps
-Camera
-Spare Camera
-All the Lenses
-Notebooks (in case I break the computer)
-Spare Computer (In case I break the computer)[
-Coffee
-Anything else I find useful

Today is the day that I leave on this great adventure. I've spent days preparing my Anaconda, "RV Starlight" a.ka. Bubblecup, for this expedition and I'm finally ready to get underway! I'll be waking out from Mitterand Hollow in Epsilon Indi at 3:00 Galactic Time. I am heading straight to the Eagle Nebula and from there I will update this thread.

Scratch that. I've decide to follow in the footsteps of DWE for part of the trip and my first waypoint is Fine Ring Sector JH-V C2-4.

End of first day

Made it 1432LY from Sol today. Will be making camp in a system between my 1st and 2nd waypoint at Praea Euq DX-B D 13-30. I found a nice icy body with an excellent view of the core and I'm currently perched above the galactic plane as to avoid the Aucocks Pocket. I hope to make it to the Eagle tomorrow.
