Galatic 'USSs' (POI). An idea.

Was thinking last night about a couple of CGs that were run not too long ago. They were both run in the same same system, one was BH and the other was salvage. Frontier set up a POI in system that was a destroyed convoy, it contained as well as the debris and salvage, waves of police and pirates. This gave rise to 'emergent' game play as players of all play styles joined to the same instance.

Anyway this got me thinking, what if we had random scenarios that popped up on the galactic map. You would need to be within a certain range for them to appear, maybe 100-150 Ly. You would also get a system message to tell you a galactic event had been detected nearby.

The benefits would be high reward bounties, rare materials, expensive cargo (Low temperature diamonds) to loot.

You wouldn't know the scenario until investigating. But the idea would be to pull opportunistic pilots into a system for a short amount of time. The POI would only exist for a number of hours 3-4, then disappear (Problematic, how do you remove it if players are still there?).

Obviously this would be open only and high risk. You would have no idea of what, if any, other pilots have already arrived. But that would be half the fun, choosing to wing up with others for protection.

So, basically random hotspots and temporary feeding frenzies.

Any thoughts?

Good idea, reminds me of those random events in Guildwars 2.

The timer can be fixed with some very clever spawning. Simply stop spawning goodies after a few hours, people will lose interest, and when you leave, you can't come back, because they'd be no POI to drop in on anymore (unless you drop in on a wing member), keeping the instance alive wouldn't benefit anyone, because nothing would spawn anyway.
With nothing new spawning, people will move on, event ends.

:)

Great idea, love every syllable.

Same way as conflict zones work right now. You stop awarding bonds/bounties/salvage/whatever the GalUSS is based on when the time runs out. EG if it's a convoy escort activity, the convoys stop spawning.
