Finally, a few suggestions of my own that I haven't seen elsewhere.
System Age - Just because.
Trading - Tons of commodities bought and sold, or trading profit.
Combat - Bounties and Combat Bonds claimed, or ships destroyed.
Mining - Quantity of system reserves, only known/explored systems.
Mining - Belt and ring types, only known/explored systems.

I intended a quick post with a few suggestions of my own, but started reading deeper into the forum and found a large number of similar suggestions and requests. Since there is a lot of overlap between the various suggestions, I decided to summarize and link them all. There seems to be a high demand for additional Galaxy Map filters in the community, especially when it comes to exploring and locating both players and conflict zones.
 
I feel that the way they're implemented now, rare commodities might as well be on the list since there's no real game to discovering them. I learned quickly that there are no in-game clues as to where they might be, you can't have an adventure in search of them, so you either fly around randomly (which isn't exactly a game) or you read the list on this forum.

They could do with being changed so that finding them isn't simply a case of going to a station where you know they're being sold and buying a fixed number which never changed. At the risk of going off-topic I'd say something like fluctuating supply with the amount available changing, even dropping to zero so that not every rare commodity is always available, and the station where you can buy the commodity not always being the same; and then little in-game clues placed in Galnet or in USSes or elsewhere in the game as to what is available (perhaps even for a fee you can sign up to a service for one specific commodity where you will get an alert if it becomes avialable). This would likely result in a number of mega-threads complaining about a nerf to trading, how dare they take a predictable grind and make a game out of it.

But yeah, even if they do that there would still be a fixed list of places where commodities may be available, so seeing these on the map would be nice.

I'd definitely like to see traffic. Perhaps as an alternative to population for showing the size of the circles.

You could also create from visited-systems a heatmap, with systems coloured by how recently you were last there.

How about systems where you have a first-discoverer credit for something in them.

It would be good as well if the route-planner tried to create a route only using systems which were checked in the filter. So for example you could try and set a route for only scoopable stars, or a route avoiding imperial systems (if you've managed to get yourself so hostile to the empire they will shoot you on sight)
