Galaxy map filters will not stay set

My galaxy filters will not stay on. They are all off and when i set one and go to set another on a different filter (example: human filter + War filter) the first filter panel deletes all my selections. Need help?

Yeah, been that way since the update, I expect they will get fixed eventually, there is probably already a complaint that you can add to in that bug log thingy they have.

It's a major pain in the buttress, and doubles the time to map out and execute long-range multiple jump sequences. Add that to the frequent Mauve Adders due to inadequate server performance/capacity. Bah humbug. Still playing though, just log out to desktop after Adders and re-log to enjoy a brief period of action.
C'mon Frontier, spend some of that ARX income and make the game more playable for us loyalists!

I think there's possibly two issues here.

One is the filters switching themselves off if you touch other bits of the galaxy map UI - as has been pointed out that's a bug that arrived with the last update, making it difficult to set a filtered route, for example. The workaround for that is to move the star map by dragging it slightly immediately after setting the filter and before touching anything else. (A corresponding issue on the tracker: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/67503 )

The (maybe) other problem is: I don't think you've ever been able to set two filters inside the Pilots Federation map options at the same time, such as Civilisation: Human and State: war in your example. The types of filter, Civilisation, State, Economy, Allegiance, Star type ..., have always been mutually exclusive. There's no workaround for this except maybe remembering that there aren't any wars without humans (so selecting a "human" filter on top would have no effect, as far as I can see.)

(ETA) The Population filter does work with Pilots Fed filters, though, and I believe the workaround for the filter reset bug will help here: set the State: war, move the galaxy map a little, then set population level, for example.

Filter Bug - This is still a BIG issue. (Horizons: Solo...I realize this is an Odyssey thread but can't find much current info for Horizons and this seems to be for both)

I cannot believe this has been happening for so long!

I decided to try manufactured materials, and when trying to set the filters for certain systems, it will not retain the selected filters so I cannot get the desired systems to display on the map. All I get is empty space and the system I'm in, along with the bookmarks, etc, but no stars display. when using the Pilots tab.

It also appears the population filter isn't working as expected. I honestly don't know how people can locate specific type systems without randomly clicking on stars, which is an absurd way of searching.

It's major bugged!

In fact, this may well be a game-breaker. Major activities can't be done because of this...filter bug.

Don't worry, you can always fill out the Issue Tracker for it,
and then have it expire with the thousands of other Galaxy Map Filter issue tracker tickets.

We've been howling into the wind about this one for a while.
Expect silence from FDev, and no fix.

Ah but maybe the Trailblazers update will fix it!

Crude workaround, go to

%userprofile%\appdata\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Player

and manually edit the custom.4.0.misc file with the settings you need and be careful not to trigger whatever clears the settings (move your mouse over the UI on the left 🤷‍♂️). Managed to restore my functionality since I basically only do ground combat now. At least I don't have to see all those ugly system connector lines anymore. Not sure if that file is referenced on load or each time the galmap accessed 🤷‍♂️

Your optimism is inspirational. I will not hold my breath tho....😵

I have had those turned off for forever, turned them on couple of weeks back when I got high to feel my way around, turned them off again and they stayed off, curious.

Yeah maybe FDEV are saving up all our fixes for Trailblazers, of course there is almost no doubt that Trailblazers will introduce an entirely different set of equally annoying bugs, so there's that to look forward to at least!

Trailblazers include a fix?

I too doubt it, seeing this is a years old bug apparently. It would be nice to see a game company actually do what seems reasonable, but they almost never do. The push by corporate admins is make money, fixing bugs doesn't make money in their minds.

To include a new set of bugs? LOL, count on it, that is how game development works! That, and the practice of a bug being reclassified as a feature after 1 year in game.

So far, I've not seen any workarounds that are acceptable. Soooo, I'm gonna have to rethink this game. We'll see when Trailblazers is released.

Honestly, I sympathize with developers in how they must deal with Microsoft and their operating system monopoly. It's really causing major problems not just in gaming but computers in general.

ONE COMPANY dictates how games are made and how Earth's computers run. I'm not okay with that! The Windows era needs to end...now!

The current lose all filters without even leaving the map bug is not years old yet, IIRC it was introduced about the time of PP2 launching. This thread was started in November.

There will be of course years old bugs in there.

Yes, I've read posts that date back to October last year. That said...

I stated it that way because of other posts made relating to the Galaxy Map and filter problems dates back to as old as 2019, some here, some Reddit, and Steam. Some are operator error, but I've read a few that seem to be very similar as the current one, but not quite the same. To me, that suggests there has been issues, and the Ascendency update seems to have added to the problem. That's purely my opinion based on having worked in game development in years past. Small bugs can lead to bigger bugs when not fixed and then adding a bunch of new data on top of it. It's just the nature of code.

Frontier knows of the problem, I read the various posts dating back to mid-November on their Issue Tracker page. It is confirmed for all versions.

Is "years" overstated? Nah, I really don't think so.
