Galaxy map in VR

Seriously, were they thinking? When I search for a system literally nothing happens. It's bad enough that it take 5 minutes just to select the search box on the panel and type the name in, but when I hit enter or try to get the interface to accept the input, it just makes a musical sound and nothing happens. I understand that it takes work to adapt the existing game to VR, but this is so bad that I have to exit the game and launch it out side of VR just to lock a navigation point. What I can do is pick something manually slewing around the map in 3D, but if I have to search for a system, this interface is just a joke.

The search works fine in VR, I hate to say this but it sounds like your are either doing something wrong or have something setup wrong. Try searching for something simple like "Sol". Rest assured, there is no need to exit the game and reload in 2D in order to search for systems. It also shouldn't take you 5 minutes to select the search box either, once in the Galmap its a simple 'UI next tab', 'UI next tab', 'UI Down', 'UI Select' from memory, seconds of work.

Some tips:

- Make sure you have 'Grid Mode' activated in the Galmap (The option can be found on the last tab). This will display an aiming circle which 'snaps' to systems.

- The Galmap works best if you configure the binds to your hotas or a spare game pad. Take some time setting these up, you should be able to configure the Galmap so it works pretty much like ship flight.

- Others may very well tell you differently (as they battle against it in futile persistence), but forget about the mouse, in VR the mouse is not your friend, it does not play well in 3D environments, it is not a 3D input device.

Galaxy map can be a bit unwieldy in VR but I have never seen the search box fail.

And 5 minutes to select the search box? Why 5 minutes, you can't click it or something?

Could this be to do with the different mouse cursor options available in VR, OP has the wrong one selected or something?

Once you have selected the search field be careful not to jog the mouse. I have found that this can cause it to lose focus.

Here's the thing, eventually I can get the input box selected and I can type text into it, but when I hit the enter key, nothing happens. It just sits there, so I'll half look out of the goggles move the mouse cursor over the |> and click it; that doesn't work. It will show as highlighted, but clicking it manually like that does nothing. It should not be this hard to search for and select a system, it's ridiculous. Once I reload the game outside of VR, I have no trouble at all. There should be a way to activate a control on screen by tabbing around until it is highlighted and clicking a button. The arrow keys allow me to do that, but I can't make it select the system while in VR mode once I type something in the box.

My suggestion to anyone using VR is: stop using your mouse in the Gal Map or System Map. If you're using a controller or flight stick, use them to move around in the map. You'll be glad you did.

I have absolutely no issues using the gal map in VR with my HOTAS. Works great. You just need to spend some time with it.

Using the mouse and HOTAS, zero issues, been like that since release. Everything is much more slick now though
