Newcomer / Intro Galaxy Map info for trading??

Ahoy there fellow CMDRs. I hope there is someone that can shed some light on this situation I went through tonight.

I was doing some missions near Gilgamesh including dropping off Cobalt at two different nearby stations and returning with Non-Lethal Weapons. So I look at the commodities being sold at station A in system X on the galaxy map and I see that I can fill my cargo hold with 50T of Bio Waste and it sells at my destination star system Y. But I see I can't buy Bio Waste at my current station so I jet off to another station in system X. I find Bio Waste, load up, and off I go to System Y. I arrive at System Y and drop off my Cobalt and sell my Bio Waste at something low like 100/T profit.

Now I look for what is going from System Y to System Z that I can buy to improve the profitability of this next leg of my trip. I see Tobacco is going from System Y to System Z so I load up on 55T of Tobacco. I jump in my machine and off I go to System Z. When I get to System Z, I head to station B and drop off the other Cobalt as a mission on the Bulletin Board. I go to the Commodities menu and see I can buy the 5T of Non-Lethal Weapons I need, but I can't sell Tobacco here. So I figure maybe it is a Black Market item since the system view menu indicates Tobacco is illegal here. But - there is no Black Market at this station.

I figure I have to go to the other station in this System so I jump in my machine and off I go. I arrive at the other station (C) and land. I go to the commodities market and they are not buying Tobacco here either. I figure, check the Black Market, and once again, there is no Black Market.

So I have a hold full of Tobacco and 5T of non-lethal weapons, and I can't sell the Tobacco. How can it be that I have checked all the stations in this star system, and the Galaxy Map shows Tobacco is flowing into this system from the one I left, but none of the stations are buying Tobacco? It seems the galaxy Map is not telling the truth. I have to dump 55T of Tobacco just so I can free up my cargo hold to begin transporting profitable cargo again.

Can anyone explain what I did wrong here? Is it a situation where the Black Market opens up later if my reputation increases here enough? Or is this what I consider to be a bug and I should understand that I can't always trust the Galaxy Map? Thanks for you help and reading this far down. I'm kinda torqued off about this.

The problem with the galaxy map trade routes is it based upon systems. Sometimes you have to visit all the outposts and stations to find where to sell it. Also sometimes there is nowhere.
You have several options. F10 to screen dump the commodity screen at every station and then refer back, or preferably use Slopey's trade tool as mentioned above. I use it, and add info when I can. Look upon it as a traders tool by traders for traders.

The system map for other systems have given me good info on both what's prohibited and what kind of economy is it. Those combined have been quite useful, especially since I don't use 3rd party sites like the ones mentioned above.

The way I see it, the information on the Galaxy and System map is quite high level and mostly valid for longer time periods. So if you were an interstellar investor, that would be the rules to invest by.
For the hands-on day-to-day trading I always refer to external sources of information, which are more accurate and break the info down to station level.

I even started my own thread about it. I was so annoyed at the time I didn't do a proper search. I was trying ot do a naval advancement mission. It was the first one I've seen in a month. Thanks to the lying Galaxy map, I failed it and another one as well.

The idea of how the Galaxy map is cool. I hope they can fix it some day. I'd prefer not to rely on third party software to do trading.
