Galaxy Map information (Icons)

Hi all,

I have noticed that there are several systems near me that have no System Map Information. I have been to several of these systems.

When I hover over the systems, I see a Red Colored Icon that says (when I hover over it) "System Map Unavailable; (No System data)".

What exactly does this mean? The True Definition.

Most well known human inhabited systems have the data of what is there automatically in your ship computer. Some systems maps you can buy when docked at a station.

To get the system map for unknown systems you have to either buy them as above or use a discovery scanner inside the system.


It's like google street view has maps for roads, cities and other places but doesn't have pictures of the middle of a forest or the top of a mountain, you'd have to go explore there yourself.

It should pop up next to that icon at a station that has Universal Cartographics in the services, theres one for buy system data and one for buy trade data.

I think I read somewhere that its only within 20Ly of the station but im not sure, maybe someone else can clarify...

I will look for this Cartographics button while at the station next time arrive.
