Galaxy Map - "Plotting Error - Route Unavailable"

Hi everyone,

Decided to take a trip out to Beagle Point and the return is full of frustration.

I was easily able to plot routs from the Bubble to Beagle Point, but coming back, the Plotting is driving me nuts, because suddenly almost no route is available. Try plotting between the 20k and all the way down to 500LY - Unavailable. I can only plot about 5-10 jumps ahead and even then, most routs are unavailable. I am not near any permit-locked systems.

Since I am not finding a lot of entries about this in the forums and other websites, I fear it may be something I am doing wrong. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I never fly economic routes and I have been making sure, that all planets are displayed. I thought there may have been an option, of only using scoopable stars, but cannot find it. Flying to beagle point, I passed through many unscoopable star systems, but the flight back, I have not seen a single one.

That's a filter setting then, you should hit unscoopable stars, there is an option to only use scoopable stars, you set the star filter to only show stars in the OBAFGKM set then apply the filter to the route, make sure you haven't set this up in the star type filter.

Thank you! Not sure, why on the return flight, that option would have suddenly been enabled somehow. I am unable to find it and I have been fiddling with those settings in Galaxy Map, but I cannot find that option.

Is this somewhere in those settings, when you open Galaxy Map, or is it in the game settings?

Assuming Odyssey or H 4.0, "galaxy map", the left menu select the star map type as "map" not "natural", a pop out list of filters will appear, select filter by "star type', it will have a list of all star types, make sure they are all selected or alternatively that "apply to filter to route" at the boot is unchecked, either way will work, but you will only see and be able to select scoopable stars as destination and that can be disconcerting when your final target system is non-scoopable. Let us know how you go, btw what is your jump range? With a decent range only using scoopable stars should still work with a decent jump range.

I have tried everything, toggled stuff on, toggled stuff off... Nothing works. As soon as I started my return from Beagle Point, the plotting started failing - without me makng any changes n the setting. Currently, I can plot about two or three jumps ahead, but that is about it everything else fails and I am 62k LY from the bubble. I am so frustrated, I have stopped playing.

What is your current jump range, have you picked up any cargo, checked route settings as mention by BradHann, are you plotting with a full or empty fule tank, always start a long plot with a full tank, there's no reason you can't jump unless your jump range is being restricted by something, are traveling through a less dense area of stars than when you flew out there, can you show us an image of your galmap navigation settings, the more info the easier it will be to help.

I am in an explorer-config Diamondback Explorer with 60+LY jump range.

Something interesting I noticed, is that I can easily plot 10k routes back to Beagle Point and the "northern" rim of the galaxy, but as soon as I try to plot anything, which even remotely points back to Sag A or the Bubble, the plotting fails for anything over 3 to 4 jumps.

That's the classic "stars too far apart" issue then, if the plotted route deviates too far from directly ahead it will fail even if there is a valid route, when stars get thin the actual route may involve deviations of close to 90% and even more, and that's when it fails to plot, the route essentially can never plot backwards or even just to close to backwards. Try moving up or down in the galmap and see if the stars get denser higher or lower, you may be far above or below your original course out or trying to plot your way through an arm gap in the galaxy, either of these can cause this issue. Once the route plotter deviates to far from the course, even if there are stars in range and a convoluted path forward it will fail automatically.

Thanks for your help! This is a very frustrating bug. As you advised, I ended up flying back some of the way towards a "north eastern" part of the Galaxy, which is a bit more densely populated with systems and then slowly, plotting 20-30 jumps ahead, swung back towards the Bubble. Now the plotting works again up to almost 20k LY.

You're welcome, it's a common mistake for novice explorers and even some experienced ones who don't do the edges much, glad you are sorted!

Hi All :)

Just thought to use this topic as it's roughly about the same thing, rather than create a new one, as I'm struggling (getting frustrated too!) with the galaxy map.
I'm in a Carrier, making my way out through Hawkins Gap. I've been out that way before in Horizons (now Legacy, no trouble) but I'm travelling that way in Horizon's 4 and sometimes Odyssey.
Here's the problem, I'm using a DBX (77Ly range) to plot the route whilst it's on my Carrier, and selecting the route to travel through filtered star systems. Trouble is when I sometimes select a route, and then pinpoint star systems that are within Carrier range, my route lines are erased, this is a rough summary as a few other actions seem to not to be working very intuitively.
The main question is, is the whole mapping system working as intended?...or is the mapping system not working as intended at the moment?

If the mapping system is bugged I can accept that, and know that sometime in the future it will be fixed. If on the other hand this is what will be standard fare for the foreseeable future then for me personally it's going to be frustrating and a pain to do any long term exploring.🤪
Edit. 1 Just remembered, for relevance, I'm using a mouse (6 button) to interface with the galaxy map.
Edit. 2 Okay, I can use the standard keyboard controls, so no problem. I was just trying to keep to one control (the Mouse). Two side buttons for the system or galaxy map and navigating using left right and scroll buttons to select. As I used to in Horizons Legacy 🤷‍♂️

Jack 🙂
