Galaxy map, route planning, no available route .... but there is

When using the Galaxy map to route find for a long journey (eg. Altair to Any Na) , I often get "no available route". But if I do my journey in 2 stages - pick a system in the approx direction and route find / fly there, then route find to my final destination the Galaxy map plans my route.

Am I hitting some internal route planning restriction or doing something wrong?

There is a limit yes, I remember reading it somewhere, I just can't remember where. I don't find it too bad to break my trips into 100 ly junks, but not sure if that helps you.

I think there are some restrictions, but I've also heard that just waiting for a while before pressing "calculate route" can help. I really have no idea, as I've had calculations for simple 50ly trips fail, only to work after jumping to a neighboring system... And also work fine when i came back the other way!

I believe its a 100 ly limit.

You do have to wait awhile for it to calculate.
For 40 to 50 is pretty fast though.

I've noticed that even with the 100 LY Auto Route limit, sometimes the Galaxy Route planning just doesn't work even for a system that's nearer than 100 LY's.

When I get into this situation I first of all go back to my Home system view, quit out of the Galaxy Map, go back to the Galaxy Map, search for my destination, then when it's over 100 LY's away, then I go to the next nearest station until I can find a route that will work.

The answer is to wait. Planning my trip from Altair to Paesia was all one calculation, I just had to wait a few minutes for the blue jump lines to generate.

It's not the generation that's the problem it's that the route generation icon (the thing you click to start the route generation off) is "red" and the tool-tip says "no route".

There is a limit of around 100Ly beyond which the map will not generate a route for you, so you need to split it into 100Ly chunks. You also need to wait for the 'blue spiders web lines' to reach your destination, which can take a few minutes if your destination is nearer the 100Ly end of the range. Until the blue lines hit your destination it will not calculate a route.
