If we could have an option to display the Galaxy and System Maps as a HUD much like Starport Services it would make controlling it with the mouse possible and vastly reduce the difficulty so many VR players have using it. If an added on screen keyboard could be attached to it as well then that would be the icing on the cake.
I do recognise that when we open the Galaxy and System Maps the game moves us to a brand new screen so there may be some code stuff happening behind the scenes that make this difficult to implement as a HUD. If that's the case, would it be possible to add an option to take us to that alternative view but instead of immersing us in it in VR, project it as a screen in the same way the initial loading screens present when starting the game in VR? This would also solve the issue and make me (and from what I can tell) a lot of other players more invested in playing more regularly in VR.
At the moment, I find myself mostly playing out of VR because using the map is such a nightmare.
