galaxy map

I have drawn out part of the galaxy map centering on SOL on a large sheet of graph paper. I then started plotting my root across the galaxy. But I cannot match the position of some stars with their positions given on star charts. For example from SOL Sirius RA is roughly 6.7 or 100 degrees. Castor RA is roughly 7.5 or 112 degrees and Pollux RA is roughly 7.7 or 115 degrees. Therefore from SOL Sirius should lie between Castor and Pollux but if you place them on a chart with their galaxy map locations you will see that they do not. On a star chart Capella and Vega are roughly 200 degrees apart so SOL should lie between them but it does not. I sincerely hope I have done something wrong because I have been a long standing fan of Elite since the 80's. Can someone please prove me wrong, and I really mean that!

I have just found a mistake, clearly Sirius does not lie between Castor and Pollux, I originaly input the wrong RA for Sirius but put the right RA in on the post, I apolagise for this, but other errors still stand. Would anybody with a star chart please check with some nearby stars. Does the fact that the galactic plane cuts through the earth at an angle which traces a curved path on a star chart have an effect?
