yeah, don't even try using the mouse its painful.
its a case of remapping the pitch yaw, roll zoom and lateral up/down to something that makes sense for you(it'll depend on your setup and will take a few attempts but you can get something usable). if you have a pov hat switch, then i find that works quite well for moving forwards/backwards/sideways. you'll also need to map buttons to move between the ui panels.
i've got mine mapped in a combination of the trustmaster HOTAS and the G25 peddals/buttons

the throttle forward/back is the map tilt,
the pedals and lateral up/down
the rocker on the throttle is zoom in/out
the stick twist is rotate
the pov hat on the wheel shifter box moves the map cursor
the buttons on the back of the throttle toggle between the system ui menus
the pov hat on the stick moves witihn the selected ui menu
