GALNET - 01 DEC 3306 - Lakon Spaceways Rejects Core Dynamics Bid

A proposal by the Federal corporation Core Dynamics to purchase the construction company Lakon Spaceways has been officially rejected.

Naomi Landseer, chairperson of Lakon’s board of directors, made this statement:

“We thank Mr Rochester and his team for their approach. However, I can confirm that Lakon Spaceways will remain an independent company.”

Business reporter Irfan Karim analysed the situation more closely for The Alliance Tribune:

“This decision has surprised many analysts, considering the persistent rumours that Lakon is in far greater difficulty than financial statements would suggest. Although its shipbuilding partnership with the Alliance proved highly lucrative, insiders believe that the firm has overstretched itself in terms of resources and manpower.”

“There have also been public comments from high-profile shareholders in Lakon, who are pressuring the board to accept ownership by Core Dynamics. Some complain of falling dividends, while others accuse Ms Landseer of focusing exclusively on Alliance contracts.”

A spokesperson for Core Dynamics confirmed that the offer to purchase Lakon Spaceways has not yet been withdrawn, and that CEO Jupiter Rochester is looking at all available options.

"...all available options", huh? If my memory serves me right the last time someone rejected something a Federal Corporation wanted it resulted in the Birthright Wars.

Federation going to risk a war on two fronts with the Empire AND the Alliance? 🤔 :sneaky:

Breaking News Guv...

Naomi Landsmear, formerly known as Naomi Landseer, died today in a mysterious space ship crash, as her Diamondback Explorer was renamed the Diamondback Exploder when it plummeted out of the sky for no discernible reason.

I'll bet you half the Fednecks don't even know what the birthright wars were...

On the topic of Lakon, I wonder, if it does turn in to another corporate war like the birthright wars, would the alliance step in on the basis tat this would be construed as the Federation trying to monopolise ship production, potentially locking the Alliance out of their Lakon ships?

Wouldn't be the first time a guy with a funny mustache, a red flag and an oversized ego starts some idiocy like that.

Which one do you have in mind? There have been a fair few lol!

Betcha its this guy!!!

I can already imagine it...

Core Dynamic representitive in the White House: "Yes, Mr. President, I know how much you'd like us to provide you with more Farraguts, Corvettes and Assault Ships to use against the Empire, but we could really use Lakon's production facilities to provide them to you, so would you mind securing those for us?" 🧐

hostile takeover of a public company should be doable given enough infinite credits.

Also, you dont know the insurance policy arrangement the pilots federation has with these manufacturers. It's not like insurance rates have gone up given the quality of pilots now able to acquire these larger lakon ships in recent history. With such poorly skilled pilots now at the helm of so many of their ships, exploding .... a normal reality would have increased insurance premiums to compensate. But in the Elite universe, it has not. Someone has to lose a lot of money on the claims. Either the pilots federation or the manufacturers, or both. It certainly isn't the pilots themselves.

I'm surprised the pilots fed hasn't gone totally bankrupt given that they dont appear to have any sources of income outside of their home system and all of the handouts they give to members.

How the hell can Lakon be at financial problems, because the pilots federation alone blows up so many lakon vessels, they should swim in cash.

I always wondered about ship construction- are manufacturers like ARM who design ships but sell the rights to make them to third party fabs? SLFs are made on the fly, is the same true for stations where automated ship construction builds them on demand from licensed patterns?

Mate... the Birthright Wars were over 500 years ago.

But it’s ok... WE MUST NEVER FORGIVE SPAIN for the Spanish Inquisition! Curse them all! #NeverForget! 🤣

Good. Good for Lakon, it doesn't make sense to me why they would be in financial difficulty. The Alliance contract would be worth trillions, surely?

However, I do worry that the Core Dynamics counter-offer will look something like this:
