GALNET - 09 MAR 3307- Thargoid Conflict Discussed at the Galactic Summit

Potential solutions to the threat posed by the Thargoid race are being debated at the diplomatic conference in the Sirius system.

Political correspondent Conrad Sterling reported for Vox Galactica:

“As always, the topic of the Thargoids brings division. The Alliance delegation has portrayed the aliens as a universal danger, while the Empire and Federation took a more balanced view.”

“Professor Alba Tesreau’s plea to increase support for Aegis was well received, but many delegates argued that further anti-xeno breakthroughs were needed to justify additional funding. To this end, Aegis will undertake new research into the Guardians, hoping to discover a technological advantage from that ancient species.”

“Prime Minister Mahon’s proposal for strategic cooperation against the Thargoids – known as the Sirius Treaty – is now being examined in detail. Supporters view it as a logical progression from the recently agreed Cornelius-Lasky Convention.”

“There was minor uproar when Archon Delaine agreed to be a signatory. Coupled with similar commitments from the Marlinist Colonies and other independents, this has brought pressure upon the Empire and Federation to follow suit.”

“If ratified, the Sirius Treaty could be the crowning achievement of the conference. However, putting it into practice will require a huge influx of resources. Decisions are expected before the end of this week.”

So that's why Li brought in Delaine... to force the Fednecks and the Empire into signing the treaty for additional support of AEGIS so he can continue poking the hornets' nest in the Coalsack... I bet a lot of credits exchanged hands between Sirius Corp and Kumo Crew for this. What an [enter series of profanities here].

Once again, The Pirate King drops the mic.

Archon Delaine: The leader the bubble doesn't want, but the leader the bubble needs.

Kumolowda!!!
The King in his Powerplay UI lore segment:

"Too much of humanity is soft and weak"

Deligates at peace summit:

And the Alliance plan to get the Thargoids to wipe out the Imps and Feds takes a little step forwards...all going to plan, good. :)

CG? Do I need to get to Zende by Wednesday night?
However, putting it into practice will require a huge influx of resources
Or is this the CG?

What a perfectly executed plan to weaken both the arrogant powers at the same time. Pull the strings Mahon and watch them dance....

This is all sounding rather worrying...

When did the Alliance get so excited about Thargoids? I thought the Feds were the warlike ones?
Well, bear with me here. We know that the outcome of FFE where you could deliver the mycoid antidote to the Thargoids, was retconned for this game. But they have been doing a lot of investigation into the Thargoids. They're the only group to have bases in the California Nebula, and they have been researching not only the barnacles, but the bark mounds too since 3302.

Cordycep fungi are parasitic towards insects...

Maybe Frontier are turning the Alliance from Thargoid sympathisers as they've been in lore, into the ones who may ultimately wipe them out.

Eh, I just hope that Blaine, Patreus and Princess Aisling Duval will not fall for this trap, denying Li the opportunity to put the entire bubble at risk of Thargoid retaliation.

Certainly looks that way. I may have to resign my Commission and become Independent but I shall wait and see what happens. Maybe AEGIS are behind the scenes, maybe the election will bring about a new govt and new policy...

A while ago there was talk about seeing if or how Tharg friendlies could do something as well as AX....that would be a good CG.

Hmmm...

Guardian 'stuff' CG incoming...
Kumo crew requests research into "how to remove traces of ammonia from meat"
Is the bubble about to burn with Thagoids in one direction & The King in another?
Tune in for tomorrow's next exciting instalment!!!!

This is getting good (y)
I'd like to order a pair of Aisling burgers with freedom fries and a Thargoid salad. And yes, a large blueberry milkshake. Thank you.

Between Witch Head and Coalsack, the Alliance is about the only power to have significant exposure to current Thargoid attacks. So ... probably when they took the decision to take over running of the Witch Head enclave from the joint Aegis-sponsored authorities.

I'd be surprised if after Witch Head either Federation or Empire trusted the Alliance not to pull the same trick again - jointly fund various facilities in the name of anti-Thargoid work, then quietly take them over for itself once the immediate attention has moved elsewhere.

Equally, without the Federation and Empire involved, joint Thargoid efforts are basically laughable anyway - they may be dying powers, but they're still very substantial ones by the standards of anyone else. Who else has Mahon got onboard...
- Delaine, who is hardly in a position to make a massive budgetary contribution
- Sirius, more the "spending funding" than the "giving funding" sort of signatory
- the Marlinists, who control eight five systems and have enough to do getting their economy running without also making major contributions to an interstellar war
- a few even more minor independent groups (noting that none of the really large ones are attending the conference)
