GALNET - 09 MAR 3307- Thargoid Conflict Discussed at the Galactic Summit

For whatever reason, the Alliance has ended up with a few player groups whose goal is Alliance expansionism in the general sense, and which are less attached to specific factions, while the Federation and Empire don't really seem to have that - possibly because the players who would are instead focused on the Fed/Imp conflict in Powerplay?

So as with the Marlinists today, the Fed/Imp WH factions didn't really have any significant number of "natural" supporters.
(And it'll be interesting to see, if Frontier do develop either the Marlinists or Kumo into a more significant political entity, whether they attract more baseline supporters in that sense, and what it means for the story if they don't)
The can't be a retrospective link, not at least one that acts synergistically because how would it play out? Archon already has territory and adding BGS factions does not really sit well with what we currently have- not unless they intend to remove Archon from Powerplay and weave him into the background as a more pervasive menace maybe...so while the Galnet story is fun and interesting, I don't honestly see how its going to translate into the game- if at all.

They could add him as a superpower by realigning all "Independent" NPC factions within his current Powerplay spheres to a new "Kumo" superpower, and switching their ethoses to Criminal (while preserving government types).

PMFs with home systems in the affected territory could be offered a one-off chance to defect on the same terms.

Not likely, but possible if they wanted to go down a route of making more superpower-level entities.

It would be interesting but very un-FD like (i.e. it seems a lot of work for IMO dubious gain). Indies are indies for a reason, and it would be an odd choice considering you have other slightly more conventional ( :D ) independent leaders to rally around.

I mean, FD can take a look at how anarchies are smacked down to see what would happen if they made defacto criminal factions (even though anarchies are not inherently criminal).

It would be 'interesting' if they did just that, but set up a handful of systems that are fully occupied by criminal NPC factions (to prevent players expanding into them) and watch how they are both supported and attacked.

It could make some very interesting gameplay to be able to choose support of 'the bad guys' outside of a PP envelope.
