RACKHAM ACHIEVES TRILLIONAIRE STATUS
09 MAY 3308
The personal fortune of entrepreneur Zachary Rackham has now surpassed one trillion credits, due to a new corporate acquisition.

A report in The Tau Ceti Journal highlighted the achievement:

“Rackham Capital Investments now officially owns the company Kavanagh Spaceframes Ltd, which constructs Orbis starports. The business deal had been in the pipeline for years with little sign of progress, but was unexpectedly agreed by both parties in the last few days.”

“Susannah Haynes, CEO of the now-renamed Rackham Spaceframes, welcomed the arrangement. She remarked that ‘improved financial stability can only benefit our efficiency at manufacturing orbital habitats’.”

“Analysts estimate that the total value of Mr Rackham’s estate is now approximately 1,012,000,000,000 credits. This makes him one of a handful of private citizens in the Federation who can claim to be trillionaires.”

The Federal Times featured a response from the journalist Bryanna Blanco:

“I cannot question the legality of the Kavanagh Spaceframes purchase. But the timing is suspicious, following Rackham’s recent self-hype about running for president. Whatever he did to push this deal through, the publicity will be worth it. Political supporters and corporate investors will surely flock to his side now that he has become the Federal equivalent of royalty.”

the only barrier to acquiring credits in elite is boredom and time.

you dont have to be good at anything or an expert or savvy. Just able to repeat the same space trucker tasks over and over without falling asleep ( or coding a bot to do it while you do).

The only interesting thing about this article is that it is focused on privatization of a station construction company.

Exciting new never before implemented mechanic in elite dangerous. Previously leaked roadmap of ED stated station construction as part of the intended features along with space legs.

Are we seeing the setup for a "brewer" style corporation that allows players to construct private bases?

"Since we decided a few weeks ago to adopt the leaf as legal tender, we have, of course, all become immensely rich. But we have also run into a small inflation problem on account of the high level of leaf availability, which means that, I gather, the current going rate has something like three deciduous forests buying one ship’s peanut. So in order to obviate this problem and effectively revalue the leaf, we are about to embark on a massive defoliation campaign, and...er, burn down all the forests. I think you'll all agree that's a sensible move under the circumstances."
Douglas Adams, HHGTTG

destroying the leaves is a poor way to control inflation. a better option would be the buy the forests and keep everyone else from getting their leaves. just like the diamond industry. that way you can keep yourself as rich as you want while controlling inflation.
Douglas Adams's character lacked vision.

That was the point of the joke. In the book they were the useless part of the population that another world had already got rid of.

When people go "pfftttt Ive got trillions too" you have to remember that the average person in 3307 is not- us space people with bespoke spaceships are a distinct minority.
That's certainly true, but does mean that they're having to avoid the obvious implications about how powerful we are.

Rackham is narrowly now a trillionaire, and was even before that seen at Joker's Deck where they use corporate and planetary ownership as poker chips (maybe that's where he won Kavanagh?). Now, sure, as a mere deca-billionaire I can't be going around entering poker games at that sort of stakes ... but I should certainly be able to buy a planet and a couple of mid-tier corporations from my spare cash.

^^ this one. Another aspect of why having an out-of whack economy is bad for the game; destroys any coginitive harmony the game might try and achieve through it's narrative.

"Rackham's a trillionaire!"
"So are some PF Commanders..."
"Oh, we don't care about that though"
