ARISSA ACCEPTS MARLINISTS’ INDEPENDENCE

12 APR 3308
Following a referendum by the Marlinist Colonies, Emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval has formally recognised their autonomous status.
Prime Consul Kayode Tau of the Marlinist Consulate reported on his latest meeting with the Emperor:
“Her Majesty was clearly uncomfortable with the democratic way in which the ex-Imperial citizens in the colonies now govern themselves. But she gracefully acknowledged that the Marlinist population had declined her invitation to become an Imperial protectorate, and would thus remain independent.”
“However, there was a proviso to Emperor Arissa’s acceptance of the decision. She insisted that the Marlinist Colonies must work with the Empire’s intelligence agencies to prevent any resurgence of the NMLA or similar terrorist groups.”
It has since been agreed that Imperial Intelligence and the Marlinist Constabulary would collaborate on identifying Neo-Marlinist extremists. Colonel Saskia Landau and Major Milo Castile, both former co-leaders of ACT, have agreed to work together once again.
In recognition of the minority who voted to rejoin the Empire, dedicated customs and immigration channels for registered Marlinist citizens will soon be established.

Can't for the life of me understand why the emperor would settle with just a referendum. She's been through this last year, her own people are divided obviously and now she's letting this go?? Just not seeming right. Maybe she has lost something during her captivity

In the words of GLaDOS: "The best solution to a problem is usually the easiest one. And I'll be honest: killing you is hard. (...) So you know what? You win. Just go."
I can see Denton get a bit upset at this though. His Majestics feed on tears and the ultra hardcore Imp senators will be less than pleased I imagine too.

Talking of senators, those involved should have been extradited to the marlinist government for trial their involvement with the nmla cannot be refuted. All that followed to the marlinists was shameful and disgusting... Justice can never heal the pain all marlinists feel but we must have it

My theory is that it's because she went through a lot is why she's letting this go. She dealt with so much crap from the Marlinists and people claiming to be Marlinists and she has so many bigger issues to deal with (the Thargoids, the Lords of Restoration, Hadrian's rise in influence, Hudson and Mahon's authoritarian streaks, among others) that just letting the Marlinists leave is an extremely convenient way to get them out of her hair.

Considering what the Lords of Restoration just got caught doing, I'm sure the Senate hardliners know to keep their mouths shut until this all blows over. (and those who don't will quickly find themselves in front of a firing squad without many people bold enough to argue on their behalf)

As for Patreus? Arissa, probably: "Denton can go cry about it. Oppressing everyone just made the problem worse and got me shoved in a fridge."

Not to mention there's probably a lot of scrutiny on him given his oppression of the Marlinists played into the Lords of Restoration's hands.

I foresee, the empire becoming a democracy, the federation becoming an empire, and the alliance becoming a federation..

Thus the dark wheel turns yet again! :D
