RACKHAM FOR PRESIDENT?

15 APR 3308
Multi-billionaire Zachary Rackham has discussed standing as an independent candidate for the Federal presidency in 3309.
The issue was raised during the opening of a new superstructure named Rackham’s Spire on Homeland in the Beta Hydri system. At a press conference in the tropospheric suite, Mr Rackham was asked for his views on the proposed Hudson Contravention.

He replied by light-heartedly hinting that he might run for office himself: “With two Zacharys on the ballot, I’m guaranteed to get some votes by mistake!”

Financial journalist Bryanna Blanco wrote an opinion piece for The Federal Times:

“Rackham’s Spire literally stabs the sky above Los Pioneros, rising so high that during the day its shadow moves across the city like a colossal sundial. Extravagant, expensive and impossible to ignore, it’s practically an altar to the man who built it.”
“I’ve spent half of my career investigating Rackham, and I’m convinced that he always has an ulterior motive. In this case it seems obvious: by laughing off suggestions about standing for election, he makes people expect it to become true. It’s blatantly the first step to a forthcoming campaign.”
“It still mystifies me how Rackham makes people forget his past. Most newsfeeds refuse to acknowledge his former identity as Calico Zack, one of the last century’s most notorious pirates. All they portray is the wealthy and successful businessman – and now, perhaps, a future president of the Federation.”

Fits with the end of the new "Consortium" Codex article noting that most of its senior members moved into "legitimate" business.

I don't doubt that this was probably the case, but this is also a pretty blatant attempt to pre-emptively reduce support for Rackham and keep Hudson in power. I mean, cmon.

"Most newsfeeds refuse to acknowledge this rumour. Only the Federal Times, a small independent newsletter that definitely isn't the biggest and most mainstream news outlet in the Federation, would dare to publish the facts the elites don't want you to hear".

Things went downhill after a bunch of Federal Times people got murdered and replaced for investigating that Starship One fiasco that Hudson definitely wasn't involved in, in my opinion.

One of the things I miss about FFE was the different newspaper subscriptions you could get and the blatant differences in how they'd cover the same events.

And how you'd get months where the Imperial Herald and Federal Times would be going on about some political scandal while Universal Scientist would continue their multi-part history of the Thargoid Wars and RIG dedicate the entire issue to personals ads.

My favourite thing about those papers was how sometimes, improbable as it was, RIG was actually right with its most outrageous articles.

Former pirate/billionaire (trillionaire or whatever) that doesn't care about anything but his own ego
VS
Everyone's favorite warmonger and authoritarian wanabee.
No matter who wins, the people are sure to lose.

This game got way too realistic all of a sudden.
Some pretender pirate. Delaine would use this guys internal organs like a novelty Subbuteo set.
He would need to pull a FC to Rakham peak, and it's currently blockaded by some consoles extremists.
