SALVATION STRENGTHENS BONDS WITH SUPERPOWERS

18 APR 3308
The anonymous anti-xeno scientist Salvation has received further military support from the Alliance, Empire and Federation.
Multiple official sources have highlighted the increasing number of crew members being seconded from the Alliance Defence Force, Federal Navy and Imperial Navy. Previously, enlisted members had been forced to resign their commissions, but regulatory changes now permit temporarily serving on vessels owned by Salvation’s commercial partner Taurus Mining Ventures.

One of the recent volunteers, Lieutenant Andrew Jones, was quoted by Vox Galactica:
“Most of us are here because it feels like Salvation is the only one taking the fight to the Thargoids. Now that Aegis is as good as gone, he’s our best hope for stopping these aliens before they wipe us all out.”

Other non-naval recruits from the superpowers are providing support in intelligence, logistics and security. A number of specialists are alleged to be working directly with Salvation on his anti-xeno superweapons, which are derived from Guardian technology.

In related news, scientific research journal The Empirical reported that no evidence of atypical radiation has been detected in the Synuefe CE-R C21-6 system. This has raised questions as to the purpose of Taurus Mining Ventures’s recent mining operation.

Does not compute.

beat me to it. Enlisted personal are the rank and file soldiers/sailors/Marines up to non-commissioned officers (NCOs). Only officers receive a proper "commission".

Speaking of commissioned officers...Hello, Captain Obvious...

Still a damn shame that FDev isn't going to use this plot point as a hook to introduce some new, mineable material/ore that can only be found in Guardian space

Could also be a fun way to spin some new lore. Maybe in the hyper-corporate and somewhat dystopian future of the Federation, all personnel are officers and civilians are treated as enlisted/pre-drafted? Or maybe you have to buy your spot. That would be very Fed.

I was told a story by a teacher back at school. It was attributed to Machiavelli then, but I don't know if it's true.
It's a story of a young noble in the medieval Europe, who inherit a faraway land through weird inheritance that period was known for. The people there don't know him at all, and he is not even a local. He fears rebellion and general disobeyance and he wants his future people to be loyal.
So, before he goes there and get "crowned", he prepare a devious plot. First, he free the most brutal, violent and cruel prisoner he can find. He give him money, food, weapons and a safe hidden place in the territory he will soon rule. He then unleash him. The brigand do all sort of horrors on the people, who comes to fear and hate him. And he is uncatchable thanks to his secret hideout and resources.

Then the noble goes to his new land and make a speech in the capital. He asks "my dear people, if I was to do one thing to prove my worth and make your life better, what would it be ?", and the people to say they want the brigand killed. So, our noble and his retinue "find" him in his lair, as he is confused by the turn of event. The brigand is then executed in public, as the public cheers.

And so, our noble earned the population approval for years to come, by giving them a solution to a problem he himself created.

Replace "brigand" by "thargoids" and "public execution" by "superweapon" and you start to get something quite relevant to the current subject I feel.

Guess it really was no more than a decoy for the Musashi then. Oh, well.

When I read that part of the GalNet release, the first thing I thought of was: why isn't that a separate news release? Seems important enough not to be buried at the bottom of another article in a one-liner...
Ah, seems that I just explained it to myself. Carry on.

If by "young noble" you mean "Pope" that would sound like Machiavelli.
