THE SANDERLYN INTERVIEWS (PART ONE)

29 APR 3308
The journalist Jade Sanderlyn of Vox Galactica was recently invited to conduct rare public interviews with admirals of the three superpowers.
This excerpt is from a conversation with Admiral Henry Paul Atherton of the Empire.
Jade Sanderlyn: This is Jade Sanderlyn reporting for Vox Galactica. I am sitting with Admiral Henry Paul Atherton of the Imperial Navy. Thank you for agreeing to this interview, Admiral.
Henry Paul Atherton: Oh, please. Call me Henry.
JS: I’d be delighted to. This is a very impressive ship, Henry.
HPA: Some might say Majestic. [laughs] Yes, the Succession is a wonderful vessel.
JS: How long have you commanded her?
HPA: Several years now. It has been an honour to have my name listed on the Succession’s exemplary service record.
JS: You were promoted to admiral only three years ago. Does that change the personal dynamic with your crew at all?
HPA: Well, they salute a little faster, I suppose. Happily I enjoy a strong relationship with my officers, so they took the change fully in stride.
JS: Let’s talk about Novas. I understand that the Imperial Navy has deployed a fleet here at Salvation’s request.
HPA: That’s correct.
JS: Emperor Arissa recently resumed her duties following… an extended absence from the throne. Having now surely been briefed on Salvation’s work, does the Emperor endorse Salvation?
HPA: If the Emperor had objections, her navy would not be in Novas.
JS: What are your objectives in the system?
HPA: Well, in case it has gone unnoticed, there is a major Thargoid invasion occurring here. It is our duty to protect civilian populations and prevent the loss of strategic assets.
JS: I’m pleased that you mentioned civilian lives first. Does Salvation share this approach?
HPA: Almost certainly. Why else would he invest so much effort into his marvellous superweapon if not to protect people?
JS: Some have claimed that Salvation prioritises victory over safety.
HPA: Jade, dear: they are the same thing. The cost of war is human lives, and the Thargoids extract a heavy toll. Every invaded system. Every burning starport. Every ambushed convoy. Every ship lost to hyperspace. We have repeatedly driven the Thargoids back from our space, but the wretched things keep returning. That cost grows each day. Salvation’s superweapon has proven effective at wiping Thargoids from entire systems at a stroke. If Salvation calls that victory while you and I call it saving lives, then I’m comfortable with the difference in perspective.
JS: Thank you for elaborating. Let’s take a break. We’ll be back after these messages.
The rest of this interview is available to pilots arriving at the INV Succession in the Novas system.

Just turn up at the Succession for the logs - they go in with any existing 'Discovered Logs' so might not be at the top. Full audio on the 2nd log (first doesn't seem to have any), the remainder of the interview is in log 2. Nice work fdev, something fun (y)
Quick update: the audio has been corrected on these messages, but it might take a little while for the server to catch up. Let us know if the play button isn't giving you anything by tomorrow. :)

Having read the rest of the interview - I've got a really bad feeling about this ...

The people of Novas will see first-hand how effective Salvation's methods can be. I believe that this war has an end in sight.

Maybe I'm weird, but I can't find Succession in Novas. Do I have to scan system somehow to find it?
I've always found pois to be a bit hinky and at least need you to honk... but you don't need to scan it down.

It's listed as a POI, "INV Succession", as it's a standard majestic class capital, rather than a dockable megaship like the Alliance has. Think it's <100ls from jump in

THX, I've thought it is like all those prison megaships etc.

Nice touch wtih the interviews and especially with the voice acting, quite brilliant
Thanks!

They're quite hilarious, and the Vox Galactica jingle tops it off with a nice and proper slice of cheese, no matter what one may say about the concept of news "broadcasts", that require the listener to travel to location to hear them. :9 Hope the Alliance admiral will prove to be as much of a character as her counterparts. :D

A slight technical matter... This invisible: "Other" POI, that "travels" just beneath the surfaces of both the planets that the log pickup points orbit... I take it they are some sort of related "container", or "anchor" object, that we are not really supposed to see..? I recall coming across such things ever since we got Horizons...
( There is also the frequent doubling of surface locations appearing in the navigation list - often with the second occurrance of bases being listed as: "human signal source"; Possibly this latter thing being something to do with several systems populating lists independently, one of them being a detailed surface scan. These sort of things all too often make it hard to know what's what - especially with all the times fulfilling one condition or other does not take effect until after a relog, on top... )

Not sure if related, but I see the sudden occurrence of doubled PIOs quite often in connection with bugged recovery missions, i.e. when the mission item has not been generated and a restart is required.
Could be... In Horizons, surface fetch quests always spawned a duplicate destination nearby, for me, generously doubling the supply of tasty incidental loot. Given it was never addressed, I always wondered whether that was a bug, or done deliberately, to offer a second chance, in case the initial one spawned somewhere unreachable, or got destroyed... :p Not sure it doesn't still do that, come to think of it...

No, what I mean is not quite the same. These doubles point to the same place and are not useful in any way. It's just a suspicious correlation to missing mission items. Then as soon as I restart, the doppelganger is gone and usually the item I'm looking for appears.
Of course, sorry - didn't mean to suggest they were; Just kept musing on aimlessly, around the subject, and wondering about just how much disparate parts of no doubt mindbogglingly complex and difficult-to-overview frameworks interact, to cause unintended outcomes. :p

Overlapping late, or even timing out, server transactions could possibly be involved in some of it...

Weird interview and answers for a military type person.
And did anyone here discover why they are using the name Salvation? Or are you all godless sinners :)
Or maybe there is a letter missing between the l and v

Never done ax stuff, seems like a good time to go get some gauss cannons :)

I wonder how the onfoot stuff will work, I don’t think there are any ax rifles or pistols yet, nor any specific acid shields.
