Aegis Confirm Reports of Thargoid Spire Reactivation

01 AUG 3310

Pilots engaged with Thargoid forces around Titan Thor have reported unexpected activity from previously dormant Spire sites.

Renowned xenologist Professor Shamus Madigan, part of the Federal delegation to Aegis, offered this update:

“This morning, our operatives verified multiple claims of energy readings from two inactive spire sites. It appears that the Thargoids have restarted industrial efforts at these locations.”

“It’s possible that the aliens have developed a method of cleansing the spires of our sabotage compounds. The spires’ internal functions may have been repurposed by other means. What we know, however, is that further contamination of these sites will be needed to shut them down for good.”

In addition, AX fleets on the front line around Titan Thor also confirmed the withdrawal of Thargoid fleets from several unpopulated systems in the area. Madigan noted that Aegis’s ‘special advisor’, Seo Jin-ae, believes the relocation of these forces and the reactivation of these spire sites is not coincidental.

The two reactivated spire sites are located in the following systems:

Of course not. They had to pull the forces from somewhere, didn't they?

... they've been reactivating spires without a problem for months, and you've only just now realized that maybe they figured out how to purge them of the stuff? Okay, then... and that totally doesn't mean they could have ways of immunizing them from said contaminants either, by this point. (But it probably won't happen like that because of the gameplay loop.)

And of course you're once again not trying to understand how it was done, you're just going straight for the "Let's just do more poisoning" route. Because that can't backfire in any way... nevermind that despite the supposed lack of importance, the Thargoids decided to go back and turn them on again. Would it hurt you to ask some questions about that, too?

(So I'm still not past believing this is just Frontier godhand to have spires for the remaining Thor systems, unless they suddenly no longer apply peripheral progress, which I also doubt.)
We're hearing from Seo Jin-ae? I thought she had wandered off somewhere? Did I miss when she came back?
Didn't wander off, didn't leave Aegis since returning from Utopia a couple months back from that meeting about Nemesis with Pranav. Has also been conspicuously quiet about the whole Titan nonsense since they began to get attacked.

As usual it's a measure of Aegis' general competence that Seo Jin-ae has to hang around and point out that "hey, the spires getting reactivated at the same time the Thargoid forces in nearby controls went somewhere else might be connected".
Nevermind the other things I pointed out in my post, which don't exactly paint a great picture either. Or, at least, not of this professor who's making the statements. The unexpected part should have been that they bothered giving up a few systems to send the fleets into the spire's location(s), when they've not bothered reinforcing them at all for... two months, now, is it? Maybe not quite. But still... plus the fact they've had no issues reactivating spires which were disabled before, for a few months, now.

(And of course nobody's asking why, just go and shoot more Thargoids. It'll be fine.)

Well, I gave both the reactivated spires a poke and it looks like business as usual over there. Banshees, angry Revenants, Orthrus and the occasional Scout patrol, barnacles are full of stuff, getting the refinery compound works as normal.

Whatever this is for, besides “Oh no, Thor is out of spires” (which, I’m guessing, probably would not have presented a significant delay to proceedings, if one at all), I don’t see it.

“It’s possible that the aliens have developed a method of cleansing the spires of our sabotage compounds. [...] What we know, however, is that further contamination of these sites will be needed to shut them down for good.”
...interesting conclusion to reach, that they might have figured out how to clean the contamination but more contamination will definitely work, this time. Just like how shooting the Thargoids more will end the war, 8th time's the charm.
Seo Jin-ae, believes the relocation of these forces and the reactivation of these spire sites is not coincidental.
Fantastic to see Seo again, I just wish she had time to figure out deeper insight instead of having to spend all her time reminding authorities that yes, the Thargoids are sentient and can do things deliberately.
