I deem this to be very likely and triggered by Salvation's beam experiment in HIP 22460. That may have triggered a 'Guardians!' bell somewhere and sent the Titans our way, as that was the origin of the signal source. Like we watched out for Thargoid signals after the first war. And now they go checking the former conflict sites and maybe other known culprits for other signs of Guardian reappearance. Leaves the question whether Guardians will actually reappear or not. Salvation may be a rogue AI, and there may be more even. Apparently that pilot didn't have Guardian tech fitted, and so he was left untouched, as the ship was not looking for humans.

I don't think the Thargoids are that proactive. They've had millions of years to sanitize the galaxy of Guardian tech, yet the surface sites and beacons are still there.

Someone is using Thargoid Sensors to draw Thargoids to the system. They're present in combat aftermath signal sources as well as being carried by NPCs in signal sources with scouts.

We're working on the assumption that the crashed Thargoid ships fought a battle with the Guardians. What if those were captured Thargoid craft the Guardians attempted to control? Salvation wasn't trying to destroy the Thargoids; he wanted to dominate them and their technology. The Proteus wave may have worked exactly as planned.
