HEAD OF AEGIS MAKES PUBLIC ADDRESS

23 MAY 3309
Professor Alba Tesreau has broadcast a formal statement discussing the past, present and future of Aegis.
Independent journalist Allan Mantle reported on the declaration for Vox Galactica:
“The tremendous escalation of the Thargoid war makes Aegis more open to scrutiny than ever. By delivering a personal message to the public, Professor Tesreau exhibits the transparency and accountability that the agency previously lacked. Indeed, it’s to her credit that the mistakes of the past are not glossed over.”
“Some will also consider it noble that Tesreau avoids mentioning how she opposed the superpowers shutting down Aegis in favour of working with Azimuth Biotech. Others will recognise her moral high ground as mere politics. The Allied, Federal and Imperial coordinators for Aegis are all duly applauded, a tip of the hat to those who helped her resurrect the organisation.”
“Recent Thargoid discoveries are mentioned, with two having been formally classified since her speech was recorded: the Glaive-class hunters that pursue human ships, and the Revenant-class drones patrolling settlements in conquered systems. Naturally, Aegis’s top priority are the Thargoid motherships, which Tesreau formally assigns the designation of ‘Titan’. The statement reveals that work is underway to modify Professor Palin’s xeno scanner to gather data on these alien capital ships.”
Princess Aisling Duval also delivered a statement:
“I have nothing but praise for Professor Tesreau’s leadership of Aegis. She has transformed a once-failing initiative into the vanguard of humanity’s defence. I am impressed and inspired by her tireless determination, which is why I sought the position of Imperial representative in the organisation. My discussions with Tesreau have convinced me that the new iteration of Aegis has addressed the concerns I once held over its strategic direction.”
“I also want to take this opportunity to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice when resisting the Thargoids’ military might. These courageous souls will never be forgotten. We all still have much work to do to protect those we care for.”
Pilots will find the Aegis Statement waiting in their ship's inbox service.

Lots of big talk, mostly presenting an image to the public. Kind of figured the talk would be like this, anyway. Thargoids aren't gonna go "Sure, let's chat" after a few years (or two centuries, if you count from the first war onward) of bad relations mostly dominated by weaponized exchanges, when both parties were present. And we do kinda have to defend ourselves.

If one more person comes with "But the Thargoids aren't going to take over all of human space in at least a decade"...

It's funny that there's an apocalyptic war going on, but there's no mention whatsoever of the militaries of the three superpowers.

Reads like a press release from a mega-corp trying to be as pleasing to everyone as can be.
wheres the anti-hunter weapons? why is the stuff to get a caustic launcher so hard to scan/get? why do we need to buy them individually? wheres something to counter the guardian shutdown field emitting from the titans, HIP 22483, and now the hunters? the grade 4 AX weapons? or even some grade 4 enhanced guardian weapons?

Until we've got the firepower to take back thargoid occupied systems, this war will continue, especially since its likely that the thargoids will be able to hurl more titans at us considering they launched 206 last time around......

Bill

I don't know that I want huge ax weapons. It seems way too possible for them to become by far the best. One of the main reasons ax combat has been so good is because there are so many ships you can do it with.

However, I would be down for more utility type hard points in huge sizes. For example, maybe a huge flak, or perhaps a huge hardpoint being laser with thermal vent built in, so you could put another experimental on top, like one of the Shield healing options.

Or perhaps some huge turreted weapons, to make multi-crew a bit more viable.

That might actually be the point. In about 10 years we'll see Elite: Thargoid Wars, where the bubble burned, mankind is scattered to a few dozen systems on the outer edge of what used to be the bubble and it's a fight for our very existence to take it back.

If we're lucky, by then we'll have atmospheric landings on planets with a hefty .3 atmospheres with mild weather. And crawling creatures.

See how this would all pan out? It's planned, I tell ya.

We’re the rebels against the Empire… I’m not convinced this would really work against the Thargoids, to be honest.

Unless something drastically tips the power balance against them so it is more even between humans and Thargoids on a technological level… we would never retake our space with everyone scattered in small resistance bubbles. Unless the Titans just up and left for some reason.

Or a capital ship-cracking weapon happened to them… (which I don’t want to occur)

It would make for some interesting material for my character’s RP, but that’s an aside.
