Galnet News 17 DEC 3306 - Engineers Boost Ship Module Upgrading

17 DEC 3306
Pilots Federation ALERT

The effectiveness of engineers’ upgrading for ship modules will be boosted until the 7th of January 3307.

During this time, engineered weapons and modules will receive increased augmentation for the same amount of materials. This will apply to every workshop in Alliance, Imperial, Federal and independent space.

Lori Jameson, an engineer based in the Shinrarta Dezhra system, provided details to Vox Galactica on how this collaboration came about:

“After the Eurybia incident, some of us contacted Liz Ryder and offered our support. It was horrifying how her expertise had been abused by the NMLA, leaving her unfairly maligned as a terrorist supporter. There were concerns that her situation might reflect badly on engineers in general.”

“We soon established communication links between every workshop, and agreed to offer a universal boost to upgrades. Hopefully this will remind pilots how much we value their custom, and that we remain a trustworthy resource.”

Mel Brandon, one of four engineers in the Colonia Region, commented:

“It’s about time that we all started talking to each other. Our services are valuable to the whole galaxy. We deserve better protection. Maybe we have to start protecting ourselves.”

Does anyone know what that actually means? Can we double-engineer the parts? Will the existing upgrades be stronger? Or what?

Quoting myself from the other thread...
Sounds familiar.

If I remember correct the last time it happened it was like this:

  • announcement
  • people grind their arx off for the mats
  • mats were different then people thought
  • riots and open letters
  • doom
  • ???
  • profit
Nah, I think it's a nice giveaway for the new epic players.

And I bet people will feel offended that other people have to grind less.

I was just getting ready to do some engineering on my Epic account. Time to unlock all of the available engineers in preparation for the double engineering period.

I suspect there will be an increase in engineer traffic - and a corresponding increase in commanders getting killed by gankers.

no I don't think so, I read it as the same amount of mats will give bigger progression through the grades

That's the same way I'd interpret it (increase augmentation for the same amount of mats).

It's interesting, though, the way they set this implies that the engineers see mats as a currency and not as things you need for the actual upgrades (or at least the specific upgrade you're getting), if they'll just take less for the same outcome vs. finding a way to do the upgrades more efficiently. In my head canon, at least, I'd always seen the mats as somehow needing to be incorporated in whatever they're doing to your module.

To quote a meme:

In my head, it's both. The materials are needed to create the upgrade - but the engineer doesn't work for free. So only a percentage of the mats actually is incorporated into your new shiny, the remainder is the engineer's fee, to be used in further research - or sold (to a mat broker) to finance their passion. What this action does is simply reduce their cut, out of solidarity for Liz.
