Seo Jin-ae Departs Utopia in Silence

21 DEC 3309

Seo Jin-ae has returned from a visit to Utopia following an invitation from Simguru Pranav Antal to discuss the possibility of Salvation’s survival.

The leader of the Utopia commune invited her to review the schematics that she recovered from an abandoned Azimuth Corporation facility in March. The schematics detailed a mysterious Guardian-based device named the Nemesis Failsafe. Seo Jin-ae believes this was used by Salvation to transfer his living mind to a remote location before his death in HIP 22460.

Aegis confirmed that it has no information about the meeting in Utopia, and that Seo Jin-ae refused to discuss the matter with them upon her return.

Pranav Antal transmitted a message that was shared across public newsfeeds:

“My sincere thanks to Seo Jin-ae for allowing me to explain my theories about Salvation’s ‘Nemesis protocol’. We have agreed not to disclose our conclusions. I must respect that Seo’s experiences with Salvation, along with her present goals, are very personal to her. It is my hope that Utopia’s findings are useful to her in some way.”

“A far more significant message that I would like to share concerns the increasing likelihood of humanity’s extinction. I speak not of the Thargoid war, but the ceaseless rivalries wrought by our innate tribalism. Now that our communities have become interstellar superpowers, this flaw in our nature could lead to the collapse of civilisation amid fire and ruin.”

“In the past, I have urged leaders to abandon militaristic posturing in favour of diplomacy. We must focus on what draws us together rather than our differences. Utopia will continue to serve as an exemplar of this philosophy, which may one day steer us toward a more holistic path.”

“We made the story move too quickly for a few days so here’s a GalNet of literally nothing happening.”

Doesn’t even feel convincing. Like ok, maybe Seo doesn’t want to talk personal in public statements yet this is indissociable from it… but at least write it out as “She told Aegis about it and just didn’t want it to be made into a public statement”.

Not “Yeah, by the way, she’s just not talking about it and it looks like she’s just sulking. And you get Pranav plugging Utopia with a message of unity that gets lost the next time a Federal and Imperial start shouting at each other in the same room.”

Another hint that the feature rework will be the removal of PP. 😝

Isnt it a bit concerning she let followed closely by an FDL? Not saying its a red flag, but its like spotting a Clipper during supercruise
The GalNet thumbnails haven’t had any particular meaning for most of the time that I can remember, so I doubt this one… really means much of anything either. Unless it’s some obscure reference to when totally-not-Azimuth mercs chased her, but then she was in an Eagle, not a Diamondback.

Indeed there is very little doubt that Pranav Antal is very obviously wrong and that having a bit of distance is important! For one quick example, many Imperial citizens would die defending themselves before living with a Marlinist-style democracy or with federated administration.

The simplistic mind of Pranav Antal is committing the sixth and most commonly-encountered mistake from Marcus Cicero's Six Mistakes of Man, that of "attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do", with which "steer us toward a more holistic path" is synonymous. There are a lot of negatively-connoted words for segregating ideologies, but really the only other option is to destroy the ones despised and effect exactly the extinction which Pranav Antal fears.

The Fer-de-Lance has a passenger seat, so surely it must be a quite typical taxi vessel!

I'm really not sure how you can read that into his words..

Quiche for all!

Possibilities;
Salvation is taking control of the Guardian constructs/Federal/Imperial/Alliance military units/Utopian computers.
The Guardian AI is taking over Salvation and eyeing up the rest of us.
Other.

Given the reluctance to say anything I'd guess there's some form of infiltration of systems.

Phew, I was getting a bit overwhelmed by the pace of the narrative. Between this and the ongoing Mystery of the Key Feature Rework plotline, I might have passed out from the combined suspense.

To give some benefit of the doubt, if Seo isn't just stalling, her not even telling Aegis in private would be significant. Has Antal revealed something to make her distrust them? It's been a long time since Aegis were presented as anything other than The Good Guys to Azimuth's Bad, though, so I doubt it.

WAY too much “personal feelings” about one individual while supposedly humanity’s entire existence is threatened at the hands of the Thargoids.

One could lead to the other.. Salvation tries to control the Guardian constructs but awakens the Guardian AI which promptly absorbs Salvation for its own purposes. "Obi Wan's Salvation's failure is complete".

People do get Pranav beats and brainwashes 'persuades' dissidents into being 'good' each week, right?

Utopia is utopia because no-one disagrees...
Enforcer cannons are spiritually aligned, ethical weapons, and using them counts as meditation. Reformation is more like a summer camp really, some people just need a little hard manual labour on a hot agricultural earth-like world anyway.

The Guardian AI having the totality of Salvation's knowledge about the Bubble and humanity would also be a Very Bad Thing.. But what will happen? We'll just have to wait and find out which eventuality turns out to be realized.

Which oddly enough didn't include his own mistakes. Cicero himself was even more simplistic and a hypocrite with a messiah complex, claiming to be a saviour and failing miserably (remind you of anyone?).
, that of "attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do"
Unlike every nation ever, which has never tried to force anyone to be like them. They were only ever invaded for their own good :)
