Galnet Update 01 FEB 3307 - Alliance Election Delayed due to Galactic Summit

The Alliance Assembly has agreed to delay electing a new prime minister to avoid clashing with the forthcoming Galactic Summit.

The proposal to postpone the election date came from Prime Minister Edmund Mahon:

“Now that the diplomatic conference has been confirmed, we must adapt to take advantage of this historic event. A potential change in leadership occurring at the same time as the Galactic Summit would cause confusion and undermine the Alliance’s presence.”

Although Mahon’s proposal was voted through by a narrow margin, many council members disagreed with altering the political calendar. Councillor Nakato Kaine, who is a candidate in the election, declared:

“It is outrageous that the prime minister is using this as an excuse to extend his term in office. Once again, he is more concerned with projecting the Alliance as a superpower than the interests of member systems. This behaviour is what you’d expect from a corrupt emperor or president, clinging onto power at any cost.”

The Assembly has rescheduled the election to take place three months later in May 3307, although this remains only provisional.

Ahhh, makes sense why he's been poking at the thargoids so much - them off, they attack, declare state of emergency, be prime minister for ever.

Always knew the Alliance was a banana republic.

Shorthand for:

He's super dead.

Shame Eddie will never see Odysseys launch....

yea I was thinking that
1st thought was how stupid to delay, why would you want him at the summit it there's a chance he wont be re elected, surely it makes sense to bring it forward ?
then it clicked, to make sure he was there to kill him off when the inevitable attacks happens
so, they bring in an election to introduce Kaine but don't want her at the summit as it's going to get obliterated

seems to suggest that the summit attack is going to be devastating

Strange decision from someone who's supposed to be fairly politically astute.

If he'd brought the election a week nearer instead:
- he could have sold it as making sure whoever attended the conference had a strong mandate to do so
- it would have made good use of his current majority to secure another several years of job security
- it leaves Kaine much less time to make a breakthrough separately (or, indeed, for the whole Lakon mess to blow up)
- it'd be tougher for Kaine to exploit politically

Maybe the Galactic Summit will be the Alpha launch. What better way to test the FPS part than the mass confusion of a multi-faction shoot out where nobody knows who they are supposed to be attacking!

One can dream.....

And it throws the Kale market into disarray. This is the main problem above all others.

Oh well .. you know what people like me say about elections

Just a way of getting a new target on the shooting gallery
