Game behaviour - Looking for simple answers please

Some noob questions, but if someone has the answers that would be good.

I always play in open. I don't attack "clean" ships, full stop. On the other hand, I always attack "wanted" ships and kill them for the bounty. I'm not pirating so not after the cargo. I recently killed some "wanted" ships in my home system and one of the factions reduced my rep (must have been their ships). But there is a lot on these threads about crime and punishment (or just not being a d*** generally) so my questions are:

1. If a ship is "wanted" can I just kill it regardless of whether it submits, seeks mercy or drops cargo or whatever?

2. If I'm in an anarchy or lawless system can anyone legally kill me even though I'm "clean" (I'm thinking they can)?

3. If the ship is "clean" but has illicit cargo, does this change the basic rule i.e. I should not kill or be killed (errant pirates aside)?

4. If a ship is "wanted" and I kill it, will I always take a rep hit from the relevant faction?

5. How do I quickly see if the "wanted" ship is from a faction I do in fact support?

2. Yes, as you (end everybody else) is actually 'lawless'
3. No
4. Yes. But if the ship is from the controlling faction, you'll easily regain reputation by handing in the bounty.
5. The faction is noted at the bottom line of your target panel.
