Game-breaking glitch destroys my excitement for Odyssey.

After spending an obscene amount of time enjoying Elite Dangerous, I've encountered a glitch that makes me question whether I should uninstall ED.

After unlocking all the Guardian modules, I decided to work on unlocking of the Engineers.

Bill Turner was next on my list.

Found out that I needed to obtain an Alioth system permit. In order to get the permit I had to become friendly with Alioth Independents faction.

Best place to go for that mission is heading to (78 Ursae System). I chose to do Commodities hauling between Starports; Rominger Dock and Townshend Hub until I became friendly.

Easy enough. So... After spending hours to accomplish this feat, voila, I get a message saying that I have fulfilled the requirements to obtain the necessary Alioth System Permit.

Excited about my achievement, I searched the Mission Board in Rominger Dock and found a new "Follow-On Mission": Permit Aquisition Opportunity.

It reads; "Commander, your work has impressed us enough to grant you a permit. Further details to arrive via your inbox. We look forward to our contined business relationship."

All I have to do is click on the Accept button.

But lo and behold, the button is not highlighted. It cannot be clicked upon.

Okay. I remember obtaining the Sol permit and found out that it was necessary to reboot ED to update the changes. So I rebooted. The Accept button was still unhighlighted.

Frstrated, I looked online for answers to my dilemma. Many people have had the same problem but no definitive answer to follow through.

Some people suggested that I should try other Docks and see if they would be different. I then found out that every dock I visited within the 78 Majoris System had the same issue.

I cannot obtain the Alioth System Permit!

Now the question for me is; After spending a few hundred hours enjoying ED, do I continue playing, without unlocking the rest of the Engineers, or just quit in absolute frustration and delete the game entirely.

I hope that there's a solution. One thing is certain though. There's not a chance I will buy Odyssey. What's the point? Without engineers, the game is pointless to continue.

If there is an answer, I will be enormously grateful for the solution.

Thank you in advance.

I would keep playing. Personally, I have Bill Turner unlocked but the only thing he does that I can't get elsewhere in the bubble is Plasma Accelerator engineering and I don't use those. Also , he doesn't offer other engineer knowledge/invites as he was the last one I bothered to unlock and only did to have all of them. Ultimately it's up to you and what modules you use but to me he is worthless

I can understand your concept of Bill Turner's importance, and I also have ED on my computer. I just prefer sitting on my couch with a much larger TV.

My computer version is no where near to where I'm at with the PS4.

Sure, it's easy enough to ignore the issue, but this problem isn't new. I've seen posts dated from 2017 that describe this problem.

Then there's this issue where I still have the 50 units of Bromellite in my Python cargo hold to hand over to Bill Turner.

I wish I could have my own storage area where I could deposit cargo.

The question then follows; how many other problems like this one will I encounter?

Frustrating.

I would contact support directly. They can probably hard boot it when they check your account.
Funny thing is; if I try to contact Frontier Support or try to Repirt Issue through the PS4, it says; "You cannot use this application due to parental controlls."

Weird.

I'm the only owner of my PS4 and all of the parenteral controls are already set to "allowed". There should be no reason for this warning to appear, but it does. So I'm restricted to using my phone to vent my frustrations.

People have thought things were broken for years - sometimes they are correct, sometimes they are mistaken and just don't know how to play 🤷‍♀️
Perhaps. The time it takes just to arrive at this problem and then describe the exact situation kinda refutes the concept of ignorance of the player.

It would seem that this problem was never rectified by Frontier. 4 years later and the problem is still present doesn't instil confidence in Frontier's ability to fix issues as they surface.

No disrespect to Frontier. They created what I believe is the best game I have ever played. My Steam account has over 1000 games. ED took Minecraft off the top of my list.

I'm just frustrated...

in this case? is there a requirement op might be missing? i got those permits ages ago and can't remember, and can't see anything in the screenshots ( ;) ) ...

Ps4 itself has been doing stupid things lately. For the last month about once or twice every hour or so I get a pop up saying the app I'm using will close in 15 mins because the license couldn't be verified. The app never actually closes and it's on anything I'm on atm. yt, Hulu, games, anything. I'm starting to think Sony downgraded their staff to a bunch of stuffed animals

Don't use the issue report menu item from within the game on the PS, that didn't work for me either, with the same rejection (during the Horizon license crisis this January).
Use a pc (URL has already been posted) or maybe a smartphone (didn't try that).

For some missions to accept you need to be allied or have a ship that can carry the freight. If not, the accept button stays grey (or white).
Happened to me when ranking up for the Empire after those rescue missions.
Simply wait until a new list of missions is offered or even switch to a different station and look there.

The mission is 'accept the permit' no ship requirements and rep already attained I'm assuming considering OPs evident and understandable frustration (which is markedly chill compared to how I'd react. But I'm kind of a hot head so....)

I was doing cargo transfers between Rominger Dock and Townshend Hub within the 78 Ursae System with my decked out Type-9. I'll continue doing transfers until I max out my status with the Alioths... I already tried visiting every dock but the problem remains.

I've sold off the Bromillite I had in my hold, but the problem persists.
