Elite / Frontier Game City's Elite Universe - The Soundtrack!

Hello all

Here at Moscow Disko Music we were recently honoured to be asked by Game City Squared - the fantastic video game festival currently underway right now throughout Nottingham City Centre - to put together a soundscape as part of Elite's 25th anniversary celebrations.

Specifically, our brief was to soundtrack yesterday's 'Origami Universe’, led by Mark Bolitho's rather beautiful Elite spaceship sculptures…. where those of you who were lucky enough to make it could put together their own piece of Elite Origami, and hang them alongside Mark’s. (The Cobra was particularly challenging, incidentally!)

So - we concocted an 80-minute piece that ran all day in the Paper Universe in Nottingham’s Market Square yesterday....

....and here it is for you to download and enjoy in full!

The piece itself is a heady mix of the original 8-bit soundtrack by Ian and Dave (and friends), combined with a number of 8-bit 'chip tune' pieces and ambient electronic passages, directly inspired by the game and its ground-breaking universe!

We've tried to create a real sense of space and space exploration, whilst retaining that sense of euphoria and optimism that came with Elite and the technology it was created with... so expect a mix of retro 8-bit lasers and explosions, beautiful (and somewhat nostalgic) analogue synth sounds, and rumbling filmic passages.

Ultimately, we hope the piece inspires you to delve back into the Elite universe once more!

Finally, there are some fantastic images of yesterday’s events up on the official Game City Flickr feed right here:

And if you’re gutted you missed out on Mark Bolitho’s Origami, each one is available for download from the Game City website:

(So, technically you could re-create the entire Origami universe in your garage/spare room/penthouse!)

We really hope you enjoy the soundscape, and thanks for listening :)

That's fantastic, was gutted to miss the event, but this will put a big smile on my face.

Thanks for all the hard work.

I haven't had a chance to listen to it all the way through, but the bits I have heard are pretty good! :)
