Game Development & HTML5

I'm not entirely sure how useful this is going to be for a complete programming novice but with HTML 5 the mark up language is receiving some extremely powerful enhancements - probably taking web 2.0 to 3.0. I'd say Flash was somewhere in between, and Steve Jobs did suggest that it would be the future. One thing it won't be doing is crashing(?) and hopefully not creating huge security flaws as with er the old adobe nonsense.

I've noticed here many wannabe game developer asking for some pointers and in truth I am not encouraged to see people wishing to use pre-existing models or engines such as real, source, etc..

If you wanna be a REAL game developer, my view is that you need to be able to code. With the ridiculous and prohibitively exclusive cost of higher education there are other alternatives and so today, and I have signed up myself, I learned of an online course for html 5 game development, well I did sign up a while back but its released now.

If you are interested take a look:

https://www.udacity.com/course/cs255

Likewise the rest of the site offers some pretty awesome FREE University level courses: https://www.udacity.com/

I can't promote this enough.. Hope you find it useful.

All I need to find now is the motivation..

So having not actually done this course myself yet, I have been informed that there are some issues with it relating to some technical difficulties in how they approach delivery. I'd suggest you bear with it, it is free after all.

If you are a beginner when it comes to computer science I'd suggest its a good time to brush up on your understanding of HTML, buy a book on Javascript and have a bit of fun.

There are no shortcuts when it comes to becoming a proficient coder. However, it is time very well invested.

BTW.. I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on the course.

Also, do consider getting involved if you are able. I have the impression that the Frontier community is brimming with some of the most intelligent minds of the UK, perhaps the world, let us share our knowledge and help create something very close to my heart; its called Meritocracy.

Paying it forward, always!

Hey,

Just thought I would share this.

LINK

If you are doing multiplayer games in HTML5 and Javascript this is the engine to get. Very Powerful and very optimized.

It has a client server architecture similar to Valves source engine.

Hope that I helped :)
