Is it just me or does this game feel woefully incomplete and in places badly thought through?
I've been playing on/off since beta, enough to have traded up to a Type 9, so I'm not one to have just logged in for a few hours before giving this opinion.
At the very minimum, before release I would have expected:
Map and Navigation to work properly, basic ease of use (favorite systems, search by type/size e.t.c.) to have been implemented.
More depth to combat. This is a thread on it's own but combat in this game feels very shallow.
Incentives to actually play in open play/solo (I always play open, but really, for trading in particular, there is no real incentive to play in open when you can take the cash from solo straight into open)
More depth to factions/missions. This is probably the biggest here, other than a few bits of fluff and a few ships, the factions are identical. They behave the same, talk the same, act the same.
Hell, a lot of the core systems I've been in don't even have a description. Permit systems, not even a few lines of description.
The universe just feels extremely bland as it is.
Interdiction mechanics are extremely rushed, they don't work very well and will need to be redone somehow.
Ships all very samey to fly, even going from a Sidey to a Type 9, I expected a very different experience piloting them, really, other than turning a bit slower, they are identical.
On the same thought, ship customisation is extremely limited, its pretty much only the guns that are different on most of the better pilot's builds that I've seen. Other than that, there aren't too many choices really.
Collision mechanics are terribad. I don't know what else to say. I've had full speed/boost collisions with players and npcs that haven't even taken my shields down, then I've had other collisions at 1/2 - 1/4 the speed, with smaller ships that have wiped out my type 9 entirely.
Incentives to do anything other than trade. I can make easily 6mil+ taking it easy trading with little risk. I can't see a way to come close to that in any other profession.
With nothing else really worth aiming for other than money, there is no incentive to do anything else, which again means more people in solo mode.
Basic storage/transportation facilities. Why can't I store or transport modules?
There are lots of little bits and quite a few big bits to go before before this game gets anywhere near what I would call a 'release state'. It still feels like very early beta
to me.
Don't get me wrong, what we have here feels like a good foundation to a game, but it doesn't feel to me like it has anywhere near the content or depth or functionality that it should have had on release.
I kinda want to keep playing it, but when it comes down to it, the game just feels repetitive and not enjoyable. Even the combat is repetitive enough that this soon after release, its already getting tedious.
I'm really hoping there are a lot of these features just round the corner, but as it stands, without major improvements fairly quickly I can see this game becoming a ghost town, after all we know that
once people stop playing a game, its rare for them to come back. Even with StarCitizen around the corner as an alternative, I would still like to see E
do well.
