Game forces pirates to big ships

I would love to pirate in a cobra or courier to not be that overpowered python/clipper/anaconda pirate that beats both traders and bounty hunters, the feeling of fighting(not stomping) traders and having to run from bounty hunters should be the main part of piracy.

Sadly, due to the current interdiction submit mechanics pirates are forced to mass lock their prey, which brings us to python/anaconda as the only viable ships come powerplay. This is extremely unhealthy IMO because it creates a huge gap between traders and pirates, that is no fun for the receiving end. Furthermore it forces pretty big insurance sums on the pennyless pirate profession.

Im asking FD to reconsider interdiction mechanics. Submitting already avoids damage, the massively reduced cooldown is very counter intuitive because it is not submissive at all if its a better way to escape, than to fight the interdiction.

So you want a pirate in a Cobra to be able to beat a trader in a Anaconda?

If you're in a Cobra, you can only pirate ships your own size.

There is no piracy ready ship that can pirate(including masslock) the traders except the python. If the submit mechanic where to be reconsidered smaller ships could theoretically pirate bigger ships if fast enough on the shields drive. This would introduce a need of skill compared to the python where you just roll in with your big phallus and everyone complies out of fear.

Ofcourse I don't expect to beat python/conda traders as a cobra, but anything smaller would be possible given they wouldn't be able to run seconds after submitting.

what are the new changes?
Even more reason IMHO to drop out of SC, submit, then open all weps, turn, burn, and start blazing.

the logistics of piracy in space where you have no "corridors" aside, piracy ought to be self limiting to small, cheap ships with some black market tech that while not terribly damaging, allows the pirate to steal cargo regardless of shields or subsystem strength (best if done in groups to increase chance of success). The possession of the device would be considered illegal. This requires a much longer FSD timeout on interdiction with no damage dealt if submitting or to the winning party if fought.

Piracy shouldn't be so much of a fight as a heist. Your goal would be to find a juicy target, pull them over and try and steal as much of their cargo as you can before they either A. fsd out or B. fend you off. The defense against this is maneuvering your cargo hold away from the pirate's direct line of sight.

the devices should only be accessible at pirate bases and pirate bases will only let you dock if you're hostile with the nearest major faction.

Then we'd be having fun.

Masslock doesn't prevent anyone determined from escaping anyway. They can just high-wake.

I did just fine in a Cobra when I was experimenting with piracy in 1.2... and I expect I'd do even better in 1.3, where jumping to SC doesn't give you a free shield recharge.

All that said, I agree with your request that it would be better if the FSD timer wasn't *quite* so short when you submit to interdiction. Even another 5 seconds would make a huge difference.

I'm at the point where I don't expect to be able to catch traders anymore in my Anaconda. Too slow, not very nimble...a T-6 can run rings around an Anaconda. Nope, I just interdict Pythons and other Anacondas for the chance of PvP. I've even started interdicting Vultures just for the lulz.
